Humidity and You

I've always wanted to travel to different states and one that's on my list for this summer is Georgia.

Friends and places and things to do brought interest to my eye. I'm thinking. "Hey! Why not? Get to relax, feel the summer breeze, and finally get to see the Atlantic for the 1st time in my life (never seen it in pictures either)".

However, for me to truly enjoy myself, I have to overcome one important factor: Humidity. I've been to Arizona, New Mexico (very VERY briefly), Texas when it was storming and flooding, Louisiana and Mississippi and Washington DC. By far, the hottest I have felt was Mississippi. Maybe it was simply because I was a child but I was unable to go outside without having a hot blast of air in my face.

Now, I'm pretty used to California, which has pretty much ZERO humidity from what I can feel around San Francisco. So Cal, possibly higher, but it's still relatively similar.

I've tried looking through Google, weather reports, literally almost all the results on Yahoo and nothing helps me find out how humid/hot it gets in Georgia. I mean, they do, but they don't.

I don't know the humidity difference between the states I've been to and Georgia. I know this is more of a first-hand experience thing, but if anyone can give me some insight on how the weather is, I'd be more than appreciative. Either someone from GA, been to GA, or can compare one of the places I have been to to GA.

I get what you mean. I haven't been there, so i can't really help you. And the only suggestion i could have was checking the weather reports for those, that you already have tried :/

I can't even get to some places with low humidity without feeling really bad. My town's always 77-94% air humidity :S

I HATE going back east (hate is a strong word here) because of the humidity. I hate sweating alot. Florida is the worst for it.

I've actually done this but compared it with SF. Humidity here was about 5% higher than it was there :f6:
Since it was snowing, I'm assuming it would feel as if I were in a snowy mountain area in California?

Also, I'm going to have to do this more towards the summer, I feel, to get a good sense of how to compare it.

It's only parts of florida that are bad.

The midwest can shock you with it's gawdawful humidity as well.

Yeah, I know it's more humid there than here. Just at the time when I checked, it was more humid there.

Also, I know humidity has a role in heat but say like the humidity was 8% higher there than it is in SF. How would I go about calculating how much hotter it is? Or is that not possible?

Some weather reports have the thermal sensation or something of the like.

Humidity% doesn't really give much information alone only that the more humid it is the better the heat transfer from the air to your skin AND the worse the sweat evaporation (which helps cooling down).

So cold+humid = colder
hot+humid = hotter and sweat doesn't evaporate so even hotter and nastier.

Which was why I was wondering if there was a way I could calculate how hot it would have to be in San Francisco to mimic that change.

I remember as a kid, I went to Mississippi and they said it was only 87 degrees outside. I thought the TV was lying because it felt like an oven out there. Kinda why I want to get all the info I can.
I wonder if children have a higher sensitivity to humidity/heat than teens/young adults. And whos know how much more sensitive they are. A quick Google search sorta said it was true. Though, maybe not in all cases. ._.

Humidy does make a huge difference. We were up in the mountains (where there is much less humidity) at about -5ºC feeling quite confortable while in Paris with the same temperature we would be freezing.

There is a way to calculate it, it involves knowing how to calculate heat transfer with convection. It has been some time I've seen this in class so I don't remember the stuff anymore.

I'd probably need a few correlation tables to calculate the convection coefficient and some property tables for air and water (humidity) properties.

What part of Georgia are you going to?

Hoping I get to go, I'll be around Atlanta/North Atlanta (just for flight, shopping, sight seeing and Six Flags) and Lawrenceville with friends.

If I ever want to go to the beach, I'll go but I have no idea where/which way to go.

My family is in the Atlanta and metro area. I've been there all times of the year and I would say it's not really that bad. I'm in Michigan so I'm kinda use to humidity.

The beach is all on the east coast. Savannah is a beautiful place to go for the beach.

Michigan is similar...hmmm. If I were to compare that to Washington D.C. (that's the last place I travelled to), I wonder what the difference is. Time to look it up.

I'd say that D.C is a bit more humid than Michigan. We have our really humid days but nothing I'd cry about.
