Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, Arizona, Shot By Gunman

Rep. Gabrielle Giffords was shot in the head by a gunman at a public event on Saturday. There are conflicting reports about whether she was killed.

The Pima County, Ariz., sheriff's office told member station KJZZ the 40-year-old Democrat was killed.

Giffords, who was re-elected to her third term in November, was hosting a "Congress on Your Corner" event at a Safeway in northwest Tucson when a gunman ran up and started shooting, according to Peter Michaels, news director of Arizona Public Media.

Giffords was talking to a couple when the suspect ran up and fired indiscriminately from about four feet away, Michaels said.

The suspect ran off and was tackled by a bystander. He was taken into custody. Witnesses described him as in his late teens or early 20s.

Giffords was first elected to represent Arizona's 8th District in 2006. The "Congress on Your Corner" events allow constituents to present their concerns directly to her.

Giffords was married to astronaut Mark Kelly, a veteran of Desert Storm. They have two children.

If by American you mean having LESS political knowledge then you're average person, but still thinking she can "run the country".

I don't blame this on Palin but "She's more American then most politicians". What the hell does that even mean? We may have a majority set of ideas on certain things but the best thing about America is the fact that in reality there's no such thing as an "American"... some ultra patriotic white guy who can trace his genes all the way back to the era of the founding fathers is no more American then some fresh off the boat immigrant who just got their green card.

OT: Though this may seem "over said" I blame the media, stations like Fox News especially, you can't go more then an hour without hearing how Obama gonna kill us all or how democrats are going to ruin this country or some over blown bull pomegranate that has no other use then to produce sweat from the masses to lubricate their wallets so the bills can fit in easier (and FYI i am aware of the Liberal Bias as well, and that it's flung from both sides).

There is nothing you can do to stop people who want guns from getting them. Making them illegal isn't going to help anyone. I was just reading about the shooting on yahoo, glad to see that she didn't die, but really sad to read that others died for such a stupid reason.

Are guns really such a bad thing? And that above is such bullshit it isn't funny. There's nothing related to each other. If the media starts picking apart that message, America is truly dead. That'd just further prove that the media is dominated by democrats who report their side; the republicans aren't Americans apparently. And Fox is.. too extremist.

There is nothing you can do to stop people who want guns from getting them. Making them illegal isn't going to help anyone. I was just reading about the shooting on yahoo, glad to see that she didn't die, but really sad to read that others died for such a stupid reason.

Yahh right, you don't get it. What I'm saying is that people should need to go through personality and background tests and so on.

We do this in Finland and it works quite well. There is about 0-2 shootings/year. This speaks for itself:

From what Ive heard about what he had on his myspace and his youtube, he was very anti government., so it could just be that in general.
