Touhou

Not sure if this is the correct forum, but i'd figure i'd ask here anyways:

I've never been involved with anything Touhou, and I guess I want to give it a try when i'm bored some day. What's the best way to do it? I have no idea whatsoever.

Start with some good ol' classic Touhou. Then you can progress to getting your soul ripped out by the newer versions.

Man. You make it sound like some kind of cult or something lol
It's just a series of bullet hell games with two and a half spin off fight games. I recommend Imperishable Night for first timers for the bullet hell games.

The first games are only for Windows 98 and Embodiment of Scarlet Devil was the first for XP.

If you're looking to start playing the famous and classic touhou SHMUPs, start with Touhou 8: Imperishable Night. It is probably the most forgiving and easiest one out there right now in terms of "Easy" and "Normal" difficulty. It sports a spell practice too unlike all the other ones.

There are also the fighting games, but I wouldn't necessarily suggest that as your starting point unless you like fighters more than SHMUPs. We also have a thread about that game here on SP.

Check out: http://www.touhouwiki.net/wiki/Touhou_Wiki for more information.

If you're looking towards the fan-made side, such as music and fan-games, you can check out http://www.doujinstyle.com. The Touhou wiki also has information on the fan-side you'd need to know what you're looking for in order to find it.

Also, if you do decide to play the fighters, I'd highly recommend downloading Scarlet Weather Rhapsody, then Hisoutensoku. Afterwards, feel free to go on our Hamachi server, and then join our club :V *SHAMELESS ADVERTISING*

Imperishable Night is really.. forgiving, yeah, agreeing with this. I think I started with Fairy Wars, personally, but Fairy Wars limited me to using only Cirno. >_>; Though it is nice to freeze bullets, lol.

I particularly like them, but to each it's own I guess.

Start with Imperishable Night as others have said, it's the most forgiving. Perfect Cherry Blossom is kinda nice on Easy as well. Embodiment of Scarlet Devil isn't that hard, but you don't get to see the hitbox when in slow mode, so that makes it kinda difficult compared to the other two I just mentioned.

^ For Hisoutensoku, that's where I started anyway, and have no clue on anything still. Looks plenty of fun as one of the fighting games

I guess I'll dump more videos here?

I finally manned up and captured all the Last Word spell cards in Imperishable Night.

That's my website I used for a project, haha. All information on there was copy-pasta'd, however, it does show you the character selection screen and a faster re-cap of the wiki, but without all of the spellcards and crap. ` ~ ` ; But yeah, Hisoutensoku is just a spin-off fighter. Most people play the Danmakus first. I actually don't like the Danmaku games a lot, I prefer fighters, myself. I only play the Danmaku whenever I'm feeling "super casual".
