PvP on could lead to some fun adventurers, but it's probably for the best. With functional heath and minecarts, the world can be less of a limited-resource Creative mode and more of a survival game. I do not remember, do buckets work yet?

Finally finished finals, so I can afford the time to consider buying this. More pressured by that beta purchase policy change too. A couple of questions before I do though.

1. Do we still have a server up?

2. How often is the server being reset? I liked what I had built the last two times and was disappointed when the poofed.

3. Can we have it be majority survival with a limit of 1 structure/complex creative per person excluding infrastructure for transportation? And for the creative bits, people would have to use common sense to defend it from monsters, but as far as griefters go, there would be punishment with proof. Keeping the other settings you guys had when I left. I still have plans to build that castle after all. If I get some assistance on it and can expand it to roughly 1.8 times the size I have in mind, I wouldn't mind it as a spawn point either since the way it is designed would prevent localized issues and can hold the same central structure that the first map I was on with you guys had. And with the expansion, I could change the one ladder tunnel to 4 which would branch out various directions. I swear the ideas in my head won't stop and the lack of fluid dynamics in free is getting to me.

3. There are server addons to prevent griefing. BlockLog(?) records every block every player places and when. It allows rolling back of only their actions, making it a powerful anti-grief tool. The other notable addon is called Towny. It lets users create "towns" where only a resident can alter blocks within the borders.

4. The server software is pretty simple. After purchasing the game, there is another download on the download page. Assuming you use Windows, you only need to run a single executable file to run the server. Depending on what mods and addons you use, it might be more complicated. You will need to portforward if you want anybody to connect, but that is standard practice for these kinds of things. I would suggest checking out the forums, as they have a lot of valuable resources.

I personally am incapable of hosting a server now. Although, I am in charge of tf2maps.net 's minecraft server which is barely up. Everyone is allowed to bring in guests, but I hold people accountable for who they bring in. I am not and never resigning because of you people. If I allow some of you in, it'll be on the server's terms, and if one of you fucks up I will deny access for all of you.

Hazzy, is that plugin available for hMod? I use hMod.

What is hMod? Hey0's Mod abbreviated? I pay enough attention to servers to know about those addons, but not enough to know much about them otherwise. I heard about them in this thread. I tried some Googling but could not find anything.

It seems I might have gotten the name wrong. I believe it is called Big Brother.

I hope beta can spark a bit of life into my minecraft-mood.

Went and bought it, and am using the server version to construct my castle with the give commands. Once I have it done and understand a little more about how this server stuff works, I MIGHT through it up as a makeshift SP server. Going to take a long ass time though unless I can get someone to help. Barely got the leveled 62 x 62 base done last night which is only going to be used for scaffolding anyway. I still need to build up to get the primary "ground" 18 blocks up somehow making the island look like it naturally ripped from the ground; then dig down 20 blocks and blow up the walls to get a waterfall pit. Fitting in the double obsidian pipe + track loop around them to a central tunnel with a primary exit somewhere in the order of operations too.

Also, @ Erich: Did you have mods running on the server you had back then? I can't seem to find the command for saving warps or spawn points. If you did, just tell me, but don't bother linking it since after beta hits, I'm assuming some things will have changed, and I'd just as well find a current mod. EDIT: Also the day/night command.


EDIT2: Upper primary platform complete. Dual ladder pipes and cart stock path nearly complete. Still need to get that "ripped island" look on the underside, but unsure how to approach that. Will work on castle itself after the lower sections are completed. And I really underestimated how large a 60x60 square is. Again, anyone willing to aid in this construction would be appreciated, but be wary that 1 block off in digging could undo hours of work to avoid that water falling prematurely. Also willing to become a host if my computer can handle it and I figure what mods to get after beta is released.
