How do you study?
#1
Serious question, sounds dumb, but everyone studies differently. I can't study without music, because then my focus is diverted to other noises (such as parents arguing, or my brother being obnoxiously loud). I usually have a music player, or my laptop on (but with only music + headphones) so I can listen to music as I read a book or my notes before a huge exam. I try to study ahead of time, but can never manage to most of the time. I study at night because I can't wake up at 4 AM in the morning to study like most people. But usually, I'll try to study a lot.. as much as possible until 1-2 AM, then wake up at 7 AM and continue studying, since my classes usually begins around 9AM+.

Erm...at night. Alone. Without music or anything. No distractions.

Exactly the same as you. Except I only listen to music when I'm researching on my laptop. If I listen to music while typing, I'd end up typing the lyrics.

I read text book cover to cover once in about 20 minutes (usually in the bathroom) then pass with straight A's.

It's not having what you want - It's wanting what you've got.

I've never studied before and I got straight A's.

I just read / learn something, then think about it for the next few hours or days until it's stuck in my head. Usually that works. Aside from that, repetitive reiteration works pretty well (like writing a Kanji about 100 times before you know it well enough) as well as trying to use what I've learned in multiple situations or ways, though that can be limited depending on what the subject area is.

If you mean by conditions, I can usually study under any condition, as long as people aren't trying to distract me from doing so. :S

- Go through the syllabus
- Understand my weaknesses and strengths in a given course
- SQ3R the hell out of it.

Feel free to PM me asking why since it'll be extremely offensive to Locked if I post it here.

Or you could just state the obvious "has more time".

Mhm.
I guess since I do read a lot, it could be seen as a way of "studying" but I've never really actually said to myself "Let's study!" and opened up my textbook to read the chapter over and over. Everything I learn usually sticks in my head. I've already graduated college too.

When I truly study it probably would have to be out of my own house and in the library. When I am isolated from any distractions besides a book , note book and pen . But this case hasn't come up yet. But soon will be next year. AP Physics AP Chem and SAT studies

I attend class, and absorb all the information there. Then the night before the exam, I go through a mental rundown, and I'm set; havent bought a textbook since second year with no regrets.

For myself, being a music major, I pay too much attention to music, so when I have music on when Im doing hwk (or the rare time I actually do sit down and look through notes), I cant concentrate and will be listening to music more than being productive.

That's funny. You actually told me about this when we chatted on MSN, lol. You don't buy books, you don't study, etc. Typical innately smart Asian, silly Jack~

By night, while drawing, watching TV.
I need something to do while studying, and if i try to study with no distractions, i end up learning nothing.
Sorta weird.

Well, for tests I gather any quizes we took over the subject. I also redo any homework that was considered hard, and I reread the notes. Also, I do all this in a quiet setting. Usually at night right before I go to bed as well.

Don't study.

Just some things like History... e.e with dates and names and things...
I only give a super-ultra-fast reading to my notes 5 minutes before the exam. It works for me.

Cram studies. My long term memory has been declining more and more, and when the topic is something I'm not all that interested in, I'll forget it by the time I've been involved in another task for 3 or so hours; typically needing another 35 minutes reviewing the content to remember it.

Silence doesn't work for me, makes me thing about life too much. Music doesn't work for me, makes me think about things that are tied to that music when I've heard it in the past. TV doesn't work because... well it's there to take your attention. So I generally just have a song playing inside my head over and over and over to sorta "blank" it out for studying. Not sure if that makes sense, or how I could explain how it is different from actually listening to the music, but it works.
