I'm thinking of reading narcissu, but after reading a quick synopsis it seems like a huge BAWWW fest. Dunno man, Clannad and Kanon already ripped me into pieces, dunno if I can handle moar ;_;

excoos me 4 dubl poast. Downloaded Narcissu anyway and went through it; it's a quick read, and not nearly as emotional as I thought it would be. Sad, yes, but...not as powerful as it tries to make itself out to be. Oh well, was still good either way.

Yeah, it's a pretty fast read, but not too hard of a hit on the emotions.

I still haven't finished the 2nd one yet, and apparently there's a continuation to the 1st one's ending after reading part 2.

This, basically. It's a good read, particularly in the last 4 acts; but I think it's really guilty of being a bit obviously manipulative and trying too hard to get the reader's pity and to move them deeply.

The way that they treated the whole idea of incurable disease and the choice between dying at home or 7F struck me as trying too hard, for instance. It seems to me that they tried to milk these two ideas to produce tragedy, because it seemed like they were really relying on that premise for most of the read- chiefly in the first 3~4 acts.

Still, it's a fairly solid read given its length. And for such as small visual novel, it has an amazing soundtrack.

Also, I'd like to ask Joe and Spidey about Yume Miru Kusuri. How long is it? Spidey, you've commented before that it's short; and VNDB has it tagged as a 10~30 hour long read- kind of a vague timeframe. Is that tag accurate, or it falls under the shorter end of that spectrum? Also, how is YMK about sexual content? It really does sound like a genuinely good read, but I don't know if it's for me or not.

I'd say it has medium (maybe high) sexual content. I wouldn't say it was a long VN. Fairly short in my opinion too. I doubt it would take 30 hours, unless you went through every word in detail for all the routes, and backtracked for each alternative option. I felt the story was really well laid out for Aeka and Nekoko. I found it a lot more difficult to sympathise Misuzu's route though. My opinion was that Aeka had the least (obscene) sexual content, and Nekoko was the most obscene. Speaking strictly in scenes, Misuzu had the most. Aeka had 5, Misuzu had 8?, and Nekoko had 6. Regardless, they do the nasty a few times each. Aeka's route being the best is the general consensus and it appears the most naturally too.

Not that long at all, really. I'd say it's shorter than Symphonic Rain but longer than Kikokugai. Then again, it's been a while since I read it. I'm pretty sure it's shorter than Symphonic Rain though.

Also, it's a pretty nice read, give it a shot. The sexual content isn't as high as something like Wanko to Kurasou, which hardly had much of a story at all really, it was more of a setting for h-scenes with 1 actual plot coming in at the end of one route.

And agreeing with this post. Aeka has less obscene and less h-scenes in general. Nekoko has medium h-scenes, but they're a bit more unique than the others, and Misuzu has the most h-scenes with a few normal and a few out there.

By the way, Nekoko is ♥

So how is Eden They Were Only Two, On The Planet? I'm considering that because VMDB listed it as 2-10 hours and written by minori, the writer of ef ~ a tale of the two.

Never played it either, but it's generally regarded as good by /jp/. There's another recommendation chart I've seen that listed it, but I didn't save it then.

I guess I'll be reading Umineko, Hanachirasu, and Eden over Thanksgiving weekend.

Also, Osananajimi wa Daitoryou opening parody side-by-side with the original. Thought it was worth sharing.

ARE YOU GUYS READY FOR NITROPLUS'S NEXT MASTER PIECE? I am too!

Premise of Axanael is basically that it's about what's basically a Russian roulette. The story, according to the PVs and according to a source where vndb got its description from, is about a story that revolves around basically a mass suicide on New Year's Eve in Akihabara that starts a buzz on the Internet. Only it's not exactly a mass suicide. Six people get together for it, except only one of the bullets out of the guns is real- and this gun is Axanael. The person who shoots themself with Axanael dies, while the remaining five get their wishes granted.

I'm curious where they'll go with it, since I don't really get how they can make a story off a premise like that. But the videos look sweet, and it's Nitroplus. I really like the Akihabara setting, and the way the videos seem to show a portrayal of Japanese culture- namely Akihabara culture.

Opening was a lot more impressionable for me, but that's because there was more to it than the PV. Awesome song and visuals. Nitroplus seems to be really good at Adobe After Effects, based on Sumaga's opening and Sumaga Special's opening; and this one naturally came out great too. The opening plays with directions in a lot of interesting ways. Scrolling up the Twitter page, then the freeze, and the box cutter going down; and then splitting down where the box cutter was cutting to reveal Noko, the yandere girl; I like how they use opposites and figure out clever transitions like that. Same thing with them in different poses about to commit suicide, where when the last person was shown with the gun pointed to the left; the birds went to the right. Then there's the art itself. I really liked the Gundam parody's art, and a few of the different styles in the video.

That shrine maiden girl reminds me of:

Could it be a coincidental passing resemblance? Or could she be a small tie between Axanael and Sumaga?

Also, let's have fun with the opening. Can you spy: Soniko, a naked gaijin (typical gaijin!), and an Indian guy who resembles TUNAK TUNAK TUN?

Okay, super slowpoke here. I've read the first Narcissu long ago, but it never had too great of an impact on me. I did get a bit sad reading it, but it wasn't anything too emotional for me. I read Narcissu 2 and stopped after a few chapters and have been picking at it slowly whenever I feel in the mood to read some Hospice Tales. I finished the 2nd part today, and I have to say that the last few chapters are soul shattering.

I'd actually recommend reading Narcissu 2 before reading 1. It's a prequel anyway, so it's not like you'll lose anything. It makes the ending of Narcissu 1 a bit more emotional as well. If you've already read 1 and didn't like it enough to try 2, I'd say you might want to give the 2nd one a chance. It starts off with a pace that's actually a bit slower than 1, so you may think it'll pretty much be the same, and I believe it's actually a little longer than 1. But that's good, because I felt in part 1 you didn't really get to know the characters well enough. You mostly got a vague impression of their personalities, but in part 2 they really go into depth on the characters.

PS3 version of Umineko is out, and the song they used to replace Tsurupettan is, uh...

Yeah.

Anyway, looks like the next Little Busters patch will work for the ME version, which means I'll be tearing through Kanon and Umineko 1-4 over my winter break to get to that soon.
