Maybe the Maplers defeated the Black Mage, but then he took over Empress Cygnus body without anyone noticing it, and then proceeded to take over the Maple World trough her.

Anyways, it doesn't really matter why she is evil, but a future evil Empress Cygnus seems awesome. Either way, she'll probably be an insanely hard boss.

Oh man! Last year, several times, I wrote in detail about the maple apocalypse that I'd love to see. I actually suggested it for MapleStory 2, but this is almost exactly what I described. AWESOME.

I wantthe storyline will go more like this:

The black mage stroke over all of mapleworld bringing chaos all around. Ereve, protected by Shinso's magic is the only safe place for those opposing the black mage. One Night, with the help of a traitor from the inside, the Black Wings sneak into Ereve taking hostage and turning into stone whats left of the resistance. Then Nihearts is revealed as the traitor and suggest to the Black mage to kill Cygnus. Ninehearts had been promised to keep commanding the Cygnus Knights to the Black Mage's service, but with a smile on his face, the black mage burns him to ashes on the spot. Then, he walks up to the Cygnus Empress. She asks why is he doing all of that to the MapleWorld and he tells her it's because this world is full of leechers, hackers, scammers, KSers, NX Wh0res, Bugs, Nexon, etc (LOL). sa she could realize with Ninehearts. Then he says that what the black wings and himself have been trying to do all this time is create a pure world. He takes her hand and asks her to come with him and help him create a better world, full of justice and peace. A better world for her to rule. That way he proceeds to Conquer the one thing left in MapleWorld that's not his, Empress Cygnus' heart.

this might sound a Little cliche but i prefer it to saying Empress Cygnus has been bad all along. That would ruin Cygnus Knights.

By teh way, there is something I am curious about. If by going to the future we find out that Empress Cygnus will become bad in a future, what would be the point of Fighting her in the Future? Shouldn't the quests require we prevent her from turning bad or take her down, in the present?.

This patch reminds me of Final Fantasy 4 where Zemus mind controls Golbez who was once good into becomming pure evil. Then he mind controls Kain who was always at a struggle to be better than Cecil who was ultimatly good, and as a result fell under the command of Golbez to retrieve the crystals to make Golbez even more powerfull to summon Zemus from the Second moon to Earth in order for Zemus to completly dominate the world through hatred.

Zemus = Dark mage
Empress Cygnus = Golbez
Knights of Cygnus = Kain

At least, that's my idea of the plot Nexon's barfing up on us.

I wonder if that large object behind the "Queen" is some sort of weapon or shield...Anyway my money is on its some dark force controlling Cygnus or a doppleganger. I had a similar idea to the whole "good person seems to have turned evil" bit with my idea for a Ludibrium expansion featuring the Ludibrium Castle that I had thought of when Temple of Time was shown.

has anyone thought that instead of Cygnus, that could be the time Goddess?
