Not going to lie, that's a pretty cool twist. Maple used to add stuff for the hell of it (and to keep players entertained, of course) but now it actually seems as though they're developing a storyline. It's a lot more engaging.

I hope there is one big ass storyline behind all of this, even bigger than that of Neo Tokyo, because I already feel 100 times more motivated to fight this boss than any other boss in game.

What if the black mage did not corrupt Cygnus because she cannot corrupt herself? D:

Could just be that the black mage's spirit was sealed and they were able to release it, but it still couldn't hold a form so they went and took a direct enemy and used her as the vessel to hold his soul.

Dunno, could be any number of things.

EDIT: This could also make for a repeatable boss, seeing as you'd have just temporarily exorcised her.
