Why I don't finish my favorite games
If I finish the games, the characters will die. The story will end and any "friendship" I had with them will be gone.

I feel like this a lot too but DQIX is the worst example because it's one of the few games that has hundreds of hours of post-game content, including new quests weekly that appeal perfectly to the gaming style she described.

CASUALS CASUALSSSSSSSS
Just replay the game as many times as you need! This is the only option.
I totally agree with the part about the final boss usually being disappointing, though. So much... It's quite challenging to ever create something that can live up to one's expectations and surpass all else you've encountered, giving you that fulfilling feeling of "wow" after it's all said and done. Stories of all sorts suffer from this problem. Endings are the hardest part to pull off successfully.

I replay games a lot, but that gets kinda old sometimes.
While I second you in the part regarding boss fights (NYX I'M LOOKING AT YOU, FU'CKING PERSONA 3), there's always alternative bosses in games I really liked. Well, you can't say Minerva in Crisis Core for the PSP was actually challenging, for example, but you needed to be 100% prepared and like at the ultimate stage of character's abilities development to go beat it. That's the only thing I feel like rewarding in games nowadays.
Eh, I just try to enjoy games and leave aside that feeling of unaccomplishment so I can be happy.

The screwed-up part about Minerva is that her Arrow of Judgement attack (or whatever it was called) always deals 99999 damage and negates Raise. If you don't know how to deal with it, you'll never actually beat her.
Did I mention that you need to use Costly Punch on her 101 times to kill her? Even more if she heals...

If you have 255 Spirit and all the Genji set it only deals like 67k. ofc that Costly Punch is the only way of actually beating her easily. But that's beside the point. Weapons in FFVII are an example of what I posted earlier too.

For some reason, I've never felt something like that. Maybe it's just me. Even when playing classic RPGs for the PSX/1 when I was younger, most or all of the RPGs involved major characters dying. Regardless, I would play the game.. over.. and over.. and over. With every single time, improving on how fast I beat the game. I started memorizing location of equipments, items, level til skills were gained, etc. YEAH, TALKIN ABOUT YOU, LEGEND OF DRAGOON AND TALES OF ETERNIA. Games nowadays will have a New Game+ save file option, but back then, those didn't exist (as far as I know), so multiple playthroughs wouldn't mean much because you're starting over from scratch. But your memories of what happens during the game stays with you. I had a habit of trying to solve things by myself, if I couldn't, I'd resort to looking up a FAQ, but besides that, I enjoyed the challenge.
Even to this day, one of the longest, and probably most memorable RPG I've played would be LoD. The characters were very well developed and in-depth with their goals and personality, it drew me in. Even though some characters dies at the end of the game, I ended up doing multiple playthrough to relive the experience again.
motha fackin 4 discs.

That's sort of why I can't bear to try to beat the Elite Four on a Nuzlocke run...

But some games in my opinion don't have a high enough replayability to go through them again. The dungeons won't magically change to be harder or something...

That reminds me of solid snake for ps1. I wouldn't finish the game because it was just too epic.
That and the fact that you couldn't pay me enough money to run through those 2 discs again in this lifetime.

Oh,Mithos is so easy(If you got devil weapons, the first form could go down in less than 1 minute)...Really disappointing.
The really challanging things after a decent amount of time was Abyssion Solo and Niflheim

Even with the Eternal Swords I still beat him in around a minute. Second form goes so much faster it's not even fun anymore.
Abysseon was the true challenge, although I managed to beat him with only one game over, and that was just me getting an idea of his attacks. Going to replay Symphonia eventually because I missed the few small things required to unlock Niflheim, meh, and I want the equipment from it.

Mithos wasn't even a challenge for an end-game boss. Probably the worst P.O.S. boss Namco Bandai ever made for an endgame boss. Even in Mania, he wasn't even challenging. I never used the Devil weapons against him, because that's too easy. I think I used a pair of "WOODEN SWORDS" on Mania mode when I got bored of killing him too quick. This slowed it down, but it wasn't a drastic amount of time.
Soloing him on the hardest difficulty with Lloyd doesn't mean much if both boss fights takes less than 15 minutes total anyways.
