PROOF: Big Bang - December 7th

Really? I honestly don't see how anyone could not predict Halloween in October and Turkeys in November. Those 2 months have always been 'slack' patches for Nexon.

So can someone tell me the benefits of releasing a Massive patch on the same day as a bigger (imo, better) game releases a massive expansion?
lyke business wise, coz i wanna know.

For same reason as it goes for video game consoles and TV programs. They want players to make a choice. It's not a surprise anyways, that companies for December season.

Bigger as in? They have ~12million players worldwide and MS has 95million registered users. Their profit is about the same as Nexons (Nexon 2009: $571,100,000+). It is hard to tell MS playerbase, because MS happens to be free2play game. Free is also a huge advantage for MS.

Also, though Nexon or any other company would want to claw a hold of a player from the start, it hardly matters if they try out another game/update before their own. WoW and Maple is as similar as apples and bananas, you eat what you crave and one is a bad substitute for the other. If Nexon steals some players from Blizzard in December or vice versa it does not really matter, once the player is done eating bananas he moves to the apples. They will both cost money, no matter when he eats them.

The First Law of Nexon: Nexon may not do extra work or, through inaction, allow extra work to occur.

Or for those of you who don't have a PhD in Nerdology: they only change things to prevent themselves from doing more work in the future. They're guided by the fast buck and the lazy employee. Deligation is their business strategy; customer support is heresy; anything "nice" they do is a carry over from Korea that they'd draw too much flack for not carrying over themselves.

Cataclysm is only a big deal for people who already play WoW and prioritize it over other games.

Lies. I saw cataclysm's cinematic trailer and felt like dropping MS for it (and I've never played WoW)

I suppose Nexon is just being selfish here. If they released Big bang before cataclysm, players would have a chance to experience both patches and choose, same if they released it after. Maybe intent to make players choose Big bang and then feel discouraged / lazy to try cataclysm as they already missed it's first days of out.

Not really.... Blizzard has completely redesigned the new starting areas/leveling zones to make it extremely easy to get started. Not to mentioned they're selling the previous 2 expansions + vanilla WoW package for only 20 bucks. Cata is 40 bucks so getting into WoW costs as much as any other game (around $60).

I've tried out 2 of the new starting zones myself and they are AMAZING. Questing is probably one of the most fun things to do in the game at the moment (at least until the raids are up and ready to go).

Kind of off-topic though but whatever. One of my RL friends has gotten back into maple and leveled up a lvl 80 some new class called a blader or something (don't keep track of the new stuff). So I might log back onto my bishop and try out some of the new things.

Really? I only saw giant dragon smashing out from underground place. It told nothing about the game or updates. How did that tell anything about the game?

I think that I should put in my signature that I won't respond to anyone who doesn't know what statistical outliers and confirmation bias are.

It tells as much about the game as the Big Bang trailer on the site says Rolleyes

Actually it tells that blizzard cares so much about their game that they are willing to work hard on even small things like a 2 minutes trailer, which is something Nexon doesn't do (big bang's video is what ? 30 seconds long?). It wasn't just the trailer what tempted me to play WoW, but also all I've heard about it though.

Nexon has worked on their trailers... You understand it would be stupid to have realistic 3D trailer for MapleStory right?

All right maybe i said that wrong, Nexon doesn't work AS HARD as blizzard on their trailers. My point is, Blizzard puts more effort to their stuff than companies like Nexon, which makes of WoW a better game IMO.

As of the trailer itself, i never said it had to be realistic or 3d. IF they wanted to work as hard their trailers would make anime trailers Tongue

Nexon put all their work into

Again. You cannot compare these 2 games as if they were contending, offering the same entertainment. They are hardly even the same genre for crying out loud. I've just started to play a little WoW and it does not in any way,for better or worse, resemble Maple. I could go on for ages about how they are different but I shall make do with how they are simillar instead: They are both online and both go under the vast umbrella called mmorpg. That's it.
#97
I was not comparing MS and WoW, I was comparing Nexon and Blizzard, saying Blizzard put more effort into WoW than Nexon on MS, which is something no one can discuss I think.

For all I know Nexon puts more effort in any other of their games but MapleStory for some reason Tongue

It doesn't matter, there is a competitive market between the two. By releasing Big Bang at the same time, Nexon can appeal to some people who are looking for something new to play during the holidays but don't have the money to go out and expand on WoW. They use this chance to hook them. It doesn't matter about the genre; someone who's seriously looking for something to play this holiday is bound to dabble. When I've looked for a new MMO to play I went through all ends of the spectrum. It's unrealistic to think that others wouldn't do the same.

Obviously we don't know Nexon's intent but it's not impossible that their goal is to sap off players who can't afford Cataclysm, or any of the various other releases this holiday season. And they've got the perfect platform to do it successfully.

To a totally new player, these revamps/updates in themselves mean almost nothing in terms of pull. To people who know what the games are about, they play the one they have an urge to play, though that surely is affected by the content hyped. I'm not ignorant enough to say marketing does not affect the players, I'm just tired of people pulling the WoW card whenever a comparison seems in order. If I wanna play an action pseudo platform game, I play Maple, if I want an actual rpg with tactics I'd play WoW. A total noob (in lack of better words) might get mesmerized by the shining trailers and marketing ploys, but the true gamer, the spending kind, will do much more research before commiting to a new game. The casual dude that only tries the game can and will do so without spending a dime.
Cataclysm costs less than a lot of maplers spend on an NX outfit + pet lol.
