Rate Nexon for 2010
#1
I debated about whether or not to do this before or after Big Bang and I think to some extent it would be a little unfair to wait, because things are almost guaranteed to get rough in the coming weeks.

That said, Nexon didn't really have the greatest start this year. From December to March we here at SP were fighting the good fight while kind of hanging on for our Maple lives. Things calmed down by the spring but there was a lot of damage done and trust lost; it seems like they hit rock bottom. Here we are now and I actually feel somewhat positive about their actions as a company and the steps they've taken toward more honest and open communication, between all of their inevitable blunders.

So just simply answer the poll with how you feel about Nexon right now compared to a year ago.

When the year started I had nothing but hatred and distrust for Nexon. They treated me and my friends like idiots on more than one occasion and I even felt a little betrayed. I sought justice and wrought it upon them in tiny blows that really seemed to mean absolutely nothing to them. However, as the year progressed, a lot of the issues I lobbied for such as accountability or being open began coming forth in their work. More announcements when issues arose... more dealing with issues at all. They've definitely improved in my opinion. They're not perfect and still have a long way to go but I think 2011 will be a very positive year for Nexon IF they keep moving forward as they have been.

I would have given Nexon a positive rating but...I'm still blocked from the game.....
Other than that (and their customer support) they have had a good year and kept me mostly satisfied (getting rolled back to the same point twice wasn't cool).

Well, assuming this Windows 7/vista fix goes well, I'd give Nexon a 4/5. However, I gave it a 3/5 for now, because generally, I am pleased with the patch work, but the rollbacks and current stability of the servers leaves something to be desired.

Again, we'll see how things go in the weeks to come.

I took a long break from Maple, so the first time I logged on this year was around late June (which wasn't pretty). Don't know how they were before the summer months.
They are trying more, and that's always a good thing.

3.5.

I would like to say they are getting better but I just can't get over the mass hacking situation that occurred this year. They blamed it on us and never admitted fault. A friend of mine that was hacked still has an open ticket with them on the issue....

I really can't say that I'm anything but very pleased with how Nexon is operating. No hacking, rollbacks, 'hell bans', ect has ever really happened to or affected any of my accounts. If something doesn't look right, I play it safe. If I discover a glitch I avoid doing it, or taking advantage of it. Also I take security very seriously. From my standpoint I am doing my part and nexon is doing theirs.

I understand, of course, that this doesn't apply to everyone but hey, I can't complain from my standpoint.

Just from a spectator viewpoint, I think they're doing pretty well. They're keeping up with the updates from Korea extremely fast and they've also implemented many other, unexpected things (like Kaede Castle). Sure, there have been huge faults along the way, but it happens. It's not Nexon's fault that a ton of hackers and exploiters decided to ruin the game for everyone else. Sure, Nexon could have done something else, like go in manually and fix the server, but the game would be down way too long. That would be a huge waste of their time and money for something which would be easily solved by rolling back the servers. I'm sure they could have come up with some better ideas for compensations, though.

From a spectator's stand-point, I give them a 4/5. At least they're actually doing things. Compare them to other companies/branches and you'll see how great you guys actually have it.

I voted awful because they never have any clue as to how to effectively run a game correctly, keep it maintained and up to date, and actually protect it's users.

All this back-boning off KMS is not good for them to do. They should have been standalone from the start.

Yeah, and what a fight it was, Sarah. Maplestory has never been the same for me ever since the beginning of this year. Even after coming back a month ago, the game feels different. My perspective is so much different than what it used to be with this game, and it's neither positive (like when I started this game) or negative (during the hacking epidemic). But a 3 is too damn generous a vote.

I haven't exactly been directly impacted by a lot of negatives (exploits/rollbacks), but have an unbiased opinion regardless. It seems Nexon is making an honest attempt to rehabilitate their image as a company, and from what I've seen they are going in the right direction.

I feel that they're taking a better approach now.

Nexon's doing alright. I wish they would update Masteria sometime - it's long overdue. I mean what's that Sphinx doing in NLC anyway? It's been there since the very beginning.

I'd give a 3, but I feel they are indeed trying to go in the right direction, so out of generosity I say they are roughly a 4, although in reality they are a high 2-3.

Issue 1: Huge hacking epidemic that literally devastated my guild and BL. What has been their response? Nothing. As we well went over, this was way beyond simple kiddy scripts, as way too many people such as Eos that are professional programmers and know how to track if they got a virus or not were hacked. It is obvious that Nexon itself got hammered. The real problem I have with this issue is their lack of a satisfactory response, basically ignoring the issue and letting the people who suffered simply suffer.

Issue 2: One bug after another. Maple still doesn't work with Vista, how long has Vista been out and they are finally getting around to thinking about doing something about it? I haven't completed a zak in eight months. Its beyond pathetic, its just plain dumb. If you have to reprogram the entire game to make it compatible and fix the various bugs that have cropped up, do it. Make a new client and server, make it the way you want it, fix the problems you have encountered, and go on. How long are you going to try and band aid it? You are losing players every day because of the crap product you put out and expect us to play. True, I log on but I don't spend any NX, not until you care about the game as much as the players do.

Issue 3: mixed signals from Nexon HQ. For example, we're told that Furies will only be able to be charged in NLC, didn't happen. That seems to be Nexons story, nobody believes anything Hime or any other Mod says. Its like you guys have no idea what your doing or the direction your taking.

I'm gonna feel alot better if Big Bang comes out AND it works on Win7. Otherwise I'm just gonna quit Maple altogether and find something else. I put alot of work into getting to lvl 166 and if I can't boss what's the point?

I'm at a solid 3 really.

I was beyond disgusted with the hacking outbreak in late 2009, a year i'd happily give a 1 to in general due to other occurances that lead to me quitting even beforehand.

The cause of my score is probably heavily influenced by Big bang which fixes problems with the game that made me sick since i got into MS. It shouldn't really count though since that's a creation of Korea's Nexon and not Noob American Nexon but they get a cookie if it really does release early december.

Permanent NX was a sign that nexon was finally becoming aware of what the competition is doing, which would have been praise worthy but the recent announcement to remove them shows they went back into a pit of ignorance in that regard.

On the plus side, the new spooky server megaphone seems to be permanent, and at 400NX is a very appealing price for a quick shout and I'll be much less wary about using them if they continue to stay available. and the compensation for the recent rollbacks were passable but far from great considering they've done better in the past....Unless you were one of the ones that only got 5k nx, then they can shove it.

Overall, guess its a matter of missed opportunities that's keeping Nexon a step away from greatness. Once again, I give a 3/5.

The game is awesome! Big Grin
but cash shop is a huuuuge letdown. There are some serious advantages when you buy NX. Which sucks becuase my parents refuse to spend a penny on maplestory.
And their customer support is horrid.

D/c hacks.

Not that I've ever been subject to them, but those who know how to d/c hack have a huge advantage over those that don't, and I find Nexon's apathy disturbing. I also find it strange that Nexon got the hint that players don't like turkey commandos in good training grounds but they didn't get the hint that d/c hacking is prevalent and destroys cash-related and bossing aspects of the game which are two major, critical features of Maplestory.

Until they fix the d/c hacking, I feel apathetic. I like to chirp in when they do the right thing, though, and they have done many right things this year.

I feel like 3 is a little low because they have shown some improvement but they aren't up to the 4 level. Most of my complaints are really more at Nexon Korea than Nexon America: there's very little on the radar after Big Bang and still nothing of interest for actual high levels. Even on the Big Bang front it doesn't feel like it really fixed anything, and the newest set of adjustments would seem to agree. On the other hand I feel like the knowledge of Big Bang being on the horizon is probably a big part of my apathy towards the game - why do anything now when it'll be much easier afterwards? Or worse yet, like Monster Book, completely irrelevant after? So, we'll see if my mind is changed in a few weeks' time. Until then, gonna have to stick with the 3.
