But dam. I really hope this doesn't turn so drastic that many countries get sucked into it
well for one thing, too many 'big' time countries can't really afford it.

America can't really afford anything anymore.
Doesn't seem to be stopping us.

War would provide jobs. During a recession, this is a good thing.

Yes, because the war in the Middle East has done wonders for the US economy...

Have you seen that many jobs created since the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan became official?
Also 60+ years ago, the US didn't outsource the way it does now, and it certainly didn't trade the way it does now.

So, in reality, how serious is this? Like, clearly it's all jokes from here and I think war has lost a lot of it's realism because it always takes place overseas. Does anyone who actually knows anything about war have any input about this?

Well, the only reason this incident is newsworthy is because NKorea has nukes and north korea is next to other countries with nukes - China , Russia , India and Pakistan.
we all know how stupid humans can be and this could potentialy snowball into a fullscale war, if NKorea decides to go all out they'll have many countries against them , anyway , this could snowball into a nuclear war and that only leads to MAD ( Mutualy Assured Destruction )

I hope so. The Earth has been boring lately, we've been needing something to liven it up.

I think this all really depends on if North Korea can depend on China for support.
In my opinion, China will decline because NK relations with China have slowly been falling.

Bigger, yes. With more gunpower, yes. Modernized, hell no. The average for NK's equipment is 1970-1980.

Actually, it is not Kim Jong Il as the leader of North Korea anymore. He has since succeeded his power to his son Kim Jong Un in a whole elaborate ceremony in his honor. My World Regions professor actually called this since he felt nothing good would come of the South Korean peace talks towards North Korea. So this was kind of expected. I'm so glad my professor keeps us busy college kids updated about the world. I wish I could take the class again next semester!

Kim Jong-Il is insane. He doesn't care about a lot of things. One of them is the people of North Korea. Gah, it's terrible.

Tbh, the real power is still with Kim Jong-Il. He's stated in the past that his son isn't able to continue his legacy, and most people around him think alike. It's been said that the head chief of the NK army is expected to succeed him, not literally.

Man I was wrong I always thought WWIII would be started by the Germans. You know, WWI, Germans, WWII, Germans, WWIII, North Koreans.... One of these things is not like the other.
