JMS Big Bang Tespia Open For All (?)
We are not a "how do i bypass an IP block to illegally play another version of MS" forum.

I don't think anyone here (besides me) lives in Japan.

So where does the line cross between illegally playing another version of MS vs. extractions? The bigger picture I'm seeing about this whole thing is that people want to know what to expect that is coming to GMS in the next 2 months - that's why they're getting hyped up about being able to get on jMS to experience Big Bang there.

Fiel isn't going to bother doing extractions on jMST because things are not stable and might change - yet, he does extract data for KMS. So in terms of ethics and practicality, how does people trying to get on jMS for that purpose differ from extractions in general...?

That's not the point he's trying to make, MysticHLE. He's saying this isn't the forum to go around asking and telling people how to use proxies, VPNs, or anything else of the sort.

The law on that is quite clear - You have the right to disassemble whats on your own machine.
You do not have the right to connect to locations you've been explicitly denied access to.
The first is reverse engineering, the second is illegal intrusion. They are not comparable, this is not debatable.

If you have access to JMS and want to post extractions, that's one thing. Teaching people who do not have access to JMS, KMS, TMS, CMS or even GMS how to bypass those restrictions is not an acceptable subject matter.
For that matter neither is teaching people how to do their own extractions.

Extractions are fair use. Consider an extraction to be nothing more than a database that only shows differences between patches. An extraction is no different than updating a database for Maplestory, and there are several Maplestory databases that exist.

Sorry to go off topic here with this, but now I'm curious to how much the law can be bent. People who connect through a proxy and other means may not be directly establishing a connection - they are, for what it is, downloading data onto their own machine for personal use. If THIS technical operation is what you would deem to be illegal intrusion by law, then the use of proxy servers for such purposes at all are in fact illegal and can be taken to court? But we all know how many people use such means to bypass censorship and other denied content enforced by some agency with certain power/right.

Yet, on the moral grounds of conduct, I'm sure you would argue that some are justified while others aren't. So with that said, what differs then in ethics and practicality in this case when it comes to extractions and getting on jMST to preview content ahead of time for that same purpose?

Fiel Wrote:Extractions are fair use. Consider an extraction to be nothing more than a database that only shows differences between patches. An extraction is no different than updating a database for Maplestory, and there are several Maplestory databases that exist.

And I'm assuming that the database would exist for the player base as an information outlet, correct?

If so, then what it boils down to in this case is then the means of obtaining/building that database. If reverse engineering/disassembling code is legal, then it goes back to my question to Eosian. Is using proxy indeed illegal then? No direction connection/access is made - data is merely transferred from one server to the next, and then downloaded. On the larger level, extractions is a means of obtaining data that is not meant to be available to the players...likewise for using a proxy. So really, IF the law really forbids the use of proxies for such purposes, then the only difference here is based on the law itself, and not based on any moral/ethics grounds?

I will add that Japanese police could theoretically come after you for illegal access. The bureaucratic mess that would invoke would make it highly unrealistic though.

You want something in a neighbors house. You stuff a trained monkey through their doggy door and have him grab everything you want and bring it to you.
You never broke & entered though because you never stepped foot in their house, right?

Intrusion via proxy, or theft via proxy, are in fact still exactly the violations they would've been if you did it directly.

I don't give a crap about what you consider moral. Morality is subjective. We're talking legality here. What I care about is not having our host and/or ISP sent a DMCA take down notice because we're providing information on how to violate encryption and/or bypass security to intrude into a network you're otherwise not allowed to get into. It's a waste of my time, and ugly downtime for the site, to challenge it and prove it spurious so we're not going to open the risk. It's not allowed here. End of subject.

If you want to post info from JMS, find your own way in and don't discuss it here. It's just that simple. If you have your own way in and want to post what you've found, go for it, but you're not going to talk about the how of getting it for everyone who wants to know.

I was just making sure in terms of the technicalities of the law. Thanks for the clarification.

http://www.ipa.go.jp/security/ciadr/law199908.html Enjoy.

(Note that lllegal access does not require a criminal complaint for prosecution under Japanese laws, unlike GMS extractions which is under US laws and is allowed for fair use. Extractions of other versions like KMS do violate local laws as the jurisdiction covering those intellectual property is outside the United States.)

You're justifying receiving stolen goods, even though you know the good was stolen? (again I'm the only legitimate JMS player on this forum) That's against the law Anyone who saw Die Hard 3 would know that Rolleyes

Speaking of the law, decryption, and whatnot - I'm surprised you didn't say anything about my program here.

Creating an alternative patcher to do the same thing the normal would've done wouldn't violate any law.
Technically creating your own MS client would be legal too, although against the TOS.

Same thing as your encryptions: legal if the material in question is under US law.

No.

Wikipedia article on fair use Wrote:Noncommercial use is invariably fair. Not true, though a judge may take the profit motive or lack thereof into account. In L.A. Times v. Free Republic, the court found that the noncommercial use of L.A. Times content by the Free Republic Web site was in fact not fair use, since it allowed the public to obtain material at no cost that they would otherwise pay for.

Extraction data cannot be obtained in-game but the game experience can. In fact the entire business model is based on providing gaming experience for money.

The day a ToS becomes law is the day I [insert vulgar phrase].

I bet you edited this image... Facebook and Twitter in MS? Yah right...

Is it just me or is that minimap just damn ugly compared to kMS? Hope it doesn't come to gMS.

It's not an edit in the least bit. The screen shot feature is all f'ucked up with the new Big Bang stuff right now.

There is a FaceBook and Twitter application in JMS now. I have no idea how it works. I can't even type my e-mail I use for Facebook into the JMS client because it's too long. xD

The minimap takes getting used to, but it's labled as the "simple mode" minimap. You can always change it to the normal one.

Also, Resistance isn't available yet. The button for character creation for the Resistance class is there, but you can't do anything with it. If you double click it, nothing happens, so you can't create a Resistance character yet.

Just wait for Nexon to become Blockparty.com...facebook and twitter will be just the start.
