He just fixed the records not playing. I don't know the other bug he was talking about. Still no falling hurt noise. He's going to bed, so we'll have to deal with whatever is happening till tomorrow. The new sunset and night are pretty cool. I haven't found any biomes... Maybe in new maps?
Skeletons aim better?
pineapple. Don't die with anything in your inventory. It seems to disappear. There goes 6 x2 rows of 64 stone blocks.
Pigmen are scary. Harmless unless you attack first, but scary. ;__;
Ghast are not as bad as I thought, as long as you keep moving. Unsure yet if Obsidian is immune to their attacks.
Portals are generated by height. When I made a portal at the bottom of Hell, I spawned inside a cave system. When I made it ontop of a mountain, I spawned on a frozen lake. Lul.
Water dries up instantly in Hell and the Lava Seas that I see are only one lava block deep. Lame.
The Slip doesn't work in SMP. Everything else does. I've pruned the map and looking if I can get it working. Hopefully I won't need to update the actual server stuff. Otherwise, it'll be open soon soon.
Yes it does. There should be a new line in the server properties file. "hellworld=false". Change it to true and the world will be in Hell. Normal or Hell. We have to choose which version the server will be in.
Also, the game refers to it as The Nether.
I was playing around in Hell and I noticed something. Ghast blast do not damage Obsidian. Not too big of a surprise, I am sure, but in the cross fire I had some Cobble stone. The cobble stone was unaffected, but the Hell-stone beneath it was.
On Easy Mode, a Ghast blast to the face does about 2 hearts of damage.
Attacking Pigmen will cause them to swarm you. They are EVERYWHERE and they travel in packs. Do not attack the Pigmen.
Anyone mind taking the cart tracks out of my storage in my tree-house and placing them along the track so that it is obvious what that long line is supposed to be for once the server goes back up? Also, going to be quite a while before I can get in after all. In the meantime, I've made a prototype of the lava castle in classic. Not having ladders or liquid dynamics sucks though. Making a floating "island" is harder than it seems. What I ended up with looked more like a piece of land that was forcibly removed from the ground rather than an island; which is OK too, but not what I had intended. Of course, I suppose it was a hard expectation to get a leveled feeling of a 30x40 piece of land floating on only 7 layers of soil.
Going back to classic made me realize how small it was.
As for the update, sorta glad that the portals aren't working yet for SMP. I had this feeling someone would go exploring then end up spawning portals all over other people's homes by accident coming out of the slip. Quick question: does that improved movement scaling from the slip also work up and down? Would be an excellent elevator to have two portals and a ladder in the slip. I mean, yeah you'd have to load twice, but for some heights it might be worth it.
When it finally does work, someone should make an obsidian "Dark Hall" type structure in the slip and the scaled larger "Light Hall" in the over-world. If you could manage to to the entire thing underground, you could even make it seem like a lab experiment gone wrong (honey I shrunk the kids?) without much impact to the surface.
Well, I need to wait for the servers that host the forum and wiki to be better, i'm getting all 502 errors. And hazzy, you just said the same thing I said. It's either or. It doesn't work. Both need to work with portals in-between each other for it to qualify as working.
One more thing I'd like to know is how portals interact with fluid. If you placed a portal underwater (not underwater initially), would it work? Conversely, if you accidentally mine in a fashion that leads lava into your portal in the slip, does it deactivate? Would suck quite hard if you didn't have any spare obsidian for a new gate and were being chased.
However, if it is unaffected by liquids/and or if it blocks their passage, it could be used as a nice detrimental system in conjunction with jails. Make an indestructible maze that goes back and forth between the slip and back making all dead-ends lead to portals covered in lava. One end lead to a waiting room where an admin could give them "unjailed" status which remarks their spawn-point. This could be applied to all new players to the server as well deterring people from just jumping in to grief should the IP become public. They would have to show a bit of patience and really want to join the server to be approved.
The portal frame is just ordinary Obsidian. If any of it is damaged then the portal poofs and has to be relit. The swirly blocks that warp you are about a third of the depth of an ordinary block. Just like Half blocks, if you place a block over it there will be empty space.
I do not think liquids affect portals at all, but the game will not spawn your portal in lava or something.
Kinda hate how you die so easily from falling in hell.
I was curious so I dug down the ground and ended up in ANOTHER hell (basically, an average generated Nether). Wasn't thinking so I though I would keep digging but I end up falling and dieing. Sigh ._.'

IIRC: if you dig through the roof/floor, you end up back in the floor/roof.
Hell has a lot of caverns and caves. If you dig straight down, you will fall. A lot. At the hight extremes are bedrock. I could not find an opening into the void.
Well, ran out of space in classic making the prototype. You know, if I was going to waste my time on it in the first place, I might as well have just bought the game and been done with it .
Classic Progress
View from a distance. Main Home.
Up close, glass scaffolding still there, and obviously no lava flowing down. Pipe to climb had to be reoriented to climb without ladders. Just pretend the orange is some of the lava flowing down.
On the "island" looking at entrance.
From the entrance, looking at the first floor hallway and a glimpse at the skylights and great hall.
Great Hall, first floor.
Looking up the skylights through the second and third floors.
Second floor hallway and glimpse of one of four rooms all with different flooring. Substitute in Blue for Diamond, Red for the new hellstone, and Yellow for the new yellow ore in the slip.
Top floor. That's supposed to be lava. Yeah, it will be dangerous, so jumping will be tested here.
Fake slip portal placement on top floor in the rear.
Inside of obsidian mountain in center. Dark throne room. Orange is again lava and red is new hellstone with fire on top.
I intended to add the eyes on top of the mouth to the mountain, but again ran out of room. After that I was going to carve the island down a bit and add the dead trees and rivers of lava (orange), but since I couldn't do the top, I just stopped there.
