Mitadake High (Halloween SP Event?)
#1
(Note: All times are in EST; the game will probably be held sometime between 8 PM and midnight)

I hope I'm not too ambitious in trying to have this happen: I want to hold a group game of Mitadake High on Saturday the 30th.

So... Your first question, I'm sure, will be "What the hell is Mitadake High?", which is reasonable, seeing as it's not too popular. To put it simply, Mitadake High made on the BYOND game engine, and it's like a Mafia/Werewolf game, except that only one or two people have special roles, and everything is played in real time and RPed. The basic premise is that you are locked in your school overnight, and you discover one of the teacher's corpses (discovering this is generally the event that "begins" the game). From there, you deduce that the killer is among you...

Of course, it's not that simple. This is not a Mafia game- you do not vote, nor does the Mafia kill at night. No, you do this old fashion way, RPG style: find your weapons and items and try to survive. The killer must sneak off and kill each player one by one. But of course, it's not that easy. You have to get their HP down to 0, and they might escape and tell the others. So you must lie, and blame each other, and try to last the night. And then there's the Death Note mode, of course: the killer has a Death note, and there's a Shinigami Eyes amongst you as well...

It's somewhat hard to explain, but I urge you to check it out. I haven't actually played since Christmas, but I think it's the perfect thing to have a Halloween game of. The actual game is here, but I'd also suggest checking out the TVT page. There's also these two rules pages, but don't take them to heart. Their general rules against RKing and the like are fine, but as this is going to be a game full of newcomers, we probably won't be that strict. It'll be a more of a "no random-killing, remember to RP, and we'll call everything else as we go" kind of thing.

If you're interested at all, please try it, and then if you like it, sign up for the group game here. My goal is to have the game on the night of the 30th, but as it’s possible that I might be busy then (24 hour gaming event at school starting on Friday at 6 PM), although it is probable that I will not be. If I am busy, we will postpone the event if needed. which should be fine because my school event is canceled.

That being said, there are a few things that I remember from the game that I think it's necessary to tell you guys, since you probably won't play many games before the group game:

1. Use your PDAs. They basically serve as in-game text messages- once you exchange numbers, you and another player can send messages to each other from anywhere in the building.

2. But be careful with who has your number. Unless it's turned off, the killer can use the school's computer to look up your real name in Death Note mode through your PDA number.

3. Black feathers, IIRC, shoot a 1-square-wide ray in front of you that pushes back people and blinds them.

If you have any other questions ask me... And please at least try the game? Frown

Haha, I never knew other SPers used BYOND. Tongue

I haven't tried Mitadake High yet because it really hasn't appealed to me that much. I might try it out though.

Personally, I have never liked the BYOND engine. Web based game engines ._.

Bumping this up a bit.

Updated the OP to clarify the times and to note that the school event that would have caused problems for me has been canceled.

And uh... did anybody check it out yet? Tongue

When you first posted it I played to play a few games to get used to it, but then I saw you had to download it so I left. Maybe I will check it again, unless you want people going into it blind.

BYOND, like that create-a-game and host it network? I thought that went under.

I remember Mitadake High. Friend showed me the game and then later showed me the anime. Sick sense of humor it has that's for sure.

I'd rather people play a game or two to understand the controls, at least. Though if people do actually want this event to happen, we could just hold a warm-up game too.

And yeah, it does require a small download + quick registration. Shouldn't be too much trouble, if you really want to try it.

By "the anime" you mean Higurashi, right? They're not exactly related beyond similar themes and Mitadake stealing its theme music.

If anyone wants to test it out tonight, I'll be holding a test game later. Want to actually have a grip on things so I can help you guys, and I need to see if I can host it well.

So it's like GMOD's Trouble in Terrorist Town game mode?

When will this test be?

Probably in an hour or two. I'd say to get on IRC if you're interested, since it'd be easier to work something out there.
