I recently ordered a new game from online because it was an unbeatable deal and it was a game I needed in my collection 5 years ago and it just came in the mail today. I didn't order it from eBay or Amazon or any of those other sites where you buy from other people so I mostly trusted that it would come to me like it should, but despite that once I pulled it out of the mailbox and took off the shipping envelope I had to examine the game like I thought I was some forensic scientist to make sure the game was in perfect condition.
The game passed my first exam so I started to take of the shrink wrap, and this is where I ran into a problem, the shrink wrap itself is easy to remove, but the little safety stickers it had on it not so much. If you don't remove those things perfectly they will leave little sticky residue on the game case, and this is exactly what happen to me, and it annoyed the hell out of me. So before I could finish taking off the final sticker and playing the game I had to spend about an hour carefully rubbing the sticky residue off without damaging the game case since I did that once before and it still bothers me to this day. But all that didn't matter soon enough once I got the residue off and took the final sticker off, I slowly cracked open the game case and smelled inside and indeed confirmed this was the smell of a new game, and then I opened the game case a little more also confirming I was the first person to open this game case since it resisted a little, and finally taking out the manual opening it and smelling it and hearing the crisp sound of the pages as I turned them and the mirrior like image in a perfect disc.
Indeed, this was a new game, and I already had fun for two hours before I even popped it in.
Anyway, putting that "nerdish" with most likely bad grammar thingy I just wrote aside I would like to ask if any other Southperry members are obsessive about this kind of thing as I am, I think there was once an Angry Dome thread that complained about putting stickers all over the game case, but I can't be sure.
Also, when you buy games (in before game pirater laughing at buying games) do you care whether the game is new or not? I myself don't always have to have my games new, if I have the option I will most likely take it, but I have no problems with buying a used game as long as everything is there and in good condition. I've only bought a game without a manual (Even though I don't really read them ever, I just hate buying something incomplete) a few times and only because I knew the chances of finding that game again were slim to none.
