The idea behind the form is an object falling from the sky, piercing the clouds and the ground. The U shaped pieces are representing "dirty" storm clouds, while the part below it represents the ground. The black object of course is the falling object. I had wanted a speckled effect with the U part, but the glaze did not come out the way I had seen it done before. The black object also came out less than expected, as it peeled heavily when applying the glaze, thus giving it the sometimes spotty look it has. Though those two glazes failed to achieve the desired effect, the final outcome still holds to the design that I was seeking to achieve, and the results are also satisfactory as they are.


Later, I will upload some sketches of the piece as I was working on the design.

I miss pottery class in highschool.. My teacher had 4 50 gallon barrels FULL of clay.

Thanks. I think you guys will also love the hand that I am working on right now as well. Its two hands actually, 1 hand made out of clay, and another is being carved out of stone. The clay hand is basically done right now, with just a few more bits of fine shaving needed to make it perfect.

you reminded me that i was carving soapstone... i wonder where that stone went ><
