Professor Layton and Ace Attorney Co-Starring In Upcoming Title

Phoenix Wright meet Professor Layton. Capcom's lawyer is going to appear in a game with Level-5's famous puzzle-solving sleuth.

Today in Tokyo, Level-5 revealed a Professor Layton and Ace Attorney crossover Nintendo 3DS game currently titled "Professor Layton vs Ace Attorney".

Ace Attorney creator Takumi Shuu will be working on the title, and the game's theme will be puzzles that are full of contradictions. Sounds perfect for a legal puzzle mash-up.

The game is set in Labyrinth City. The background is medieval, and the city is populated with witches. The villain is named the "story teller" and whatever he writes with his pen becomes reality.

The in-game trial is called "The Trial of the Witch", since Phoenix Wright's client is accused of being a witch.

I always did consider them somewhat close games to one another. I'd only buy the next one of either franchise once I had finished whichever one I had left at the time.

However... I find this just ... unbelievable. It seems so perfect, yet I can't help but doubt it's existence. I would like an explanation for their worlds intersection though, unless they pull out a "this is how europe always was in PW". The thing that will bother me the most is the clashing of styles.

I know Capcom's never really been all that descrete about pushing franchises, but this in combination with the new Marvel VS Capcom gives me curiousity towards the future of crossovers. Maybe it will start to become more mainstream to bring them stateside with this trend.

I'm guessing it won't have much relation to the story since *insert spoiler here* But yeah, it may be a good idea to play at elast the first one.

You can pick up any game in the series and play, whether you're new to the series or not (with the exception of the last case in Trials and Tribulations), sort of like all the Professor Layton games (with the exception of Flora and Don Paolo but they don't really spoil any story). I mean, maybe you'd want to to learn about the characters but you're not obligated to. On the other hand, you should play the games anyways cause they're awesome.

I spy with my little eye the judge!

I hope he is in the game's cases, his reaction to layton's logic would be hilarious.

Translation from Court-records

• Layton - Using the powers of witchcraft, she put this town into chaos. That is you!
• Majo - Incorrect. I am not a witch.
• Layton - Then how is it that you know the contents of a book you couldn't/haven't read?
• Wright - Objection! Professor, there is a large contradiction in your reasoning.
• —
• Luke - It'll occur as the book says.
• Maya - No way, it can't be.
• —
• Majo - I will probably be killed. It was written so in the book.
• Wright - I won't let that happen.
• Layton - Mr. Wright.
• Wright - ?!
• Layton - We may have made a large mis-assumption.
• —
• Layton - Those who defend the law won't necessarily always tell the truth, Luke.
• Wright - I can't quite trust that guy, the one in the silk hat.

YESYESYESYESYESYESYESYES

Somewhere on GameFAQs Wrote:*imagines a courtroom*
Witness: *says something that is clearly a lie*
Wright: OBJECTI-*interupted*
Layton: THIS REMINDS ME OF A PUZZLE!!!!
-spend five minutes trying to figure out a completely irrelevant puzzle-

Quote:Want Professor Layton Vs Phoenix Wright? Tell Capcom
So do you guys want that newly unveiled crossover epic to make its way to Europe and North America? According to Capcom, you’re going to have to beg for it.
According to Capcom, the international release of Professor Layton vs Phoenix Wright isn’t as guaranteed as you might imagine. In fact, the company wants its loyal fans to comment on their Capcom Unity page in order to “demand” that the crossover reaches North America and Europe. For now, Capcom states that the game has been announced “only for Japan”.

More here.

Looks like you'll have to peach for it.
