Due to Ulu City, Dec/Jan seems more likely now from the maplestory's twitter response.

Nexon USA release big content during times of high activity, when the company feels it will make a high ROI. During time of low activity, it releases crap content. We know this and more often than not expect it. They won't lose all their business but they will miss a wonderful ROI window.

As a consumer you want them to have a high ROI when they release lots of content. You want them to work for the big money. You want to make Nexon work like a ****ing horse. A horse with a keyboard and an ipod. You don't want them to make as high an ROI from miracle cubes or cash shop white scrolls because you are teaching them to be lazy and uncompetitive.

I wouldn't exactly say that October/November are times of spending, if that's what you're implying.

If you want them to be competetive then you want them to release it in Decemeber when everyones doing their Christmas shopping therefore saying "BIG BANG IS COMING!" makes the Maplers forget about the other games want the NX cards for this huge update and draw attention away from its competitors. I'll bet you more than 80% of MS play another game while staying online MS.

At least in the US, Oct/Nov are the months of launch windows for major game consoles, OS releases, games, all kinds of hardware, etc. etc. They are DEFINITELY without a doubt major times of spending. They are the windows of holiday shopping. November alone is freaking huge. We have weeks leading up to Black Friday packed to the brim with deals across the country from countless retailers.

No. Tons of people do Christmas shopping AFTER Christmas and long before it. People do their Christmas shopping around November, specifically most at Black Friday. Why? Because usually the deals are too damn good to say no to. lol.

Their only spending that money once! Nexon makes money all year round. Bigbang is not going to make people spend money. What will they have to buy? The current players that know about big bang already are spending money or gaining nx from other sources. BigBang is not meant to be a cashcow, players will come on for 4hrs then go play something else do you expect people to be on maple 24/7 when big bang comes out?

Their are Halloween stores open all year round they don't make money. They only make money when October comes around. Another example is fast food chains, during the week they don't make a lot of money but when the weekend hits the money is coming in.

Well, Big Bang will get a lot of people picking up the game again, and that will lead to some people picking up a Nexon cash card or two, so it does lead to more players and money in their pockets.

...What does this have to do with your example? You're saying Nexon makes money year round. Are these like, examples of what Nexon isn't?

True, although I can see Rayhovite's point if Maplestory was P2P.

It is not about what they 'have' to buy. Far too many people for my taste buy NX and THEN figure out how to spend it. But if you want examples, sure I can do that too. Charms, wheels of destiny, everything potential related, gach, 2x exp, are definitely going to be in higher demand once the update rolls around. And that's not even counting Resistance class.

Also, for kirby75

Yes those are examples of what nexon isnt.

All you listed are in high demand right now. It doesn't matter what month those returning players come back they will be coming back anyway on the count of big bang. Your acting as if these game releases are going to keep returning players from NEVER coming back to maple. When those users come back to maple nexon will profit off them then. They still have the current player base to make money off, some may not play maple as much but they will still invest money in to maple while playing black ops.

Lets take in to count x2 events those playing black ops will put it down for a few hours to come on maple.

The players that stop playing maple are not giving money to nexon anymore. Big bang is coming soon they are thinking about coming back to the game, when it happens doesn't matter as long as they have future plans of coming back to maple.

Personally I just don't think people are going to do a lot of shopping in December.

If they make their money 'once', isn't that all the more reason for them to be insanely competitive during this holiday season? Nexon spreads their content across the year as an MMO publisher, however the necessity of the efficiency of the release window for the holiday season is no less critical.

A newly released videogame makes the bulk of its money from the initial shipment, namely its release and then the following few months. That means there is tons of money spent on the marketing side (at least double the game development cost), which ultimately means more competition for an on-going cost MMO such as MS. So thank you for helping my point.

I'm guessing Big Bang will draw some buzz from players of other MMOs, which may in turn result in spending. I'm grasping at straws here.

When someone decides to buy something else that is not nx it is competition for ms? So if i decide to order a $10 pizza from pizza hut its nexon vs pizza hut now? I'm just going off your logic o great rayman

I don't see your point, no matter what side you look at it when someone doesn't buy nx its going to be on-going cost for MS. When those new videogames are released someone probably spent more nx the same day. One person is buying a game another person will be buying nx

You're mixing up categories.
Entertainment =/= Food.

Being said, he has a logical point. Are you trying to say that if 100,000 people quit MapleStory to move to WoW, their profit wouldn't decrease? It's the same thing here. If people are quitting the game for another game, then Nexon losses some profit. You're making it seem like they lose ALL profit, which is completely incorrect.

Not a lot of business majors in this thread, haha.

Yeah man, pizza competes with NX. That is exactly the point I'm trying to make. Watch out, Pizza Hut is gonna give Nexon a run for its money!

And for the record, you are not going off my logic. You are nowhere near it. You are near the same kind of logic that Sony/Microsoft had when they said Nintendo 'wasn't competition', even though they were under the umbrella of console manufacturers/software suppliers. History has shown us they have more than learned their lesson. Any videogame, any MMO, etc., is competition to MS. Nexon would rather have you spend 60 dollars on their NX than on a new game. They wouldn't prefer you to spend your electricity bill money on NX because that would be counter-productive.

When those new videogames are released someone probably spent more nx the same day.

A company that relies on a probability such as this would be buried alive in the videogame industry. Let's hope you're not the next CEO!

SwordStaker Wrote:It would be stupid if they released it. All the Ulu City Mobs are in the data already that would mean before Novemember 3rd they would have to change all the mobs to fit to the Big Bang formula. Releasing it by the VERY END of November or VERY EARLY Decemember gives them all the time they need to change it plus the chance to do this:
Early December-Big Bang
Late December-Resistance
January-Mechanic
The original version of China is actually amazing. Though if we do get any nerfed version Taiwan would be the better bet because of the boss and its hp:exp ratio.

Yeah it sorta is now. I'm not gonna sit here and say it's coming next patch or anything if it comes YAY if it doesn't life will move on. I still have hope that maybe one day it'll come but I won't "preach" about it anymore.

You do realize that mob HP, MP, avoid, accuracy, PDRate and MDRate are all extrememly easy to calculate functions depending on mob level? I could probably go through every Ulu city mob and give them all BB stats in an hour. Implementing those stats may take a little longer, but it's really easy.

And something else leading me to think BB Early november is the end date of the poll. I think the point of this poll isn't really to decide what to put in BB, but to get people excited for it. The poll ends the 20th. What's the point of the poll in the first place if they don't say anything about it until a month later? The entire reason for it is essentially just hype, so waiting to announce the results for a month just lets that hype they built fade. It's even worse if they say "All these changes are coming! Faster leveling! In a month!" because then it's letting the hype build for too long, not to mention a lot of players would probably stop buying 2x cards if training is about to become faster anyways.

Thats not the point of how easy it is it's just stupid to add all that data then without it even being released yet, take it all back and say "NUPE ITS BEING CHANGED GUAIZ!~" Why can't you get it through your heads is we have too much info backing up that it WON'T be during those times. What does NEXON call its December-January patched?WINTER updates. The article CLEARLY states NEXON said it'll come IN WINTER. Not everyone will stop traning a lot of people will use this time TO buy NX cards get ahead of the crowd then go ahead and solo Zakum or some other boss on the first day of release.
