Avatar Smegas

It it were Nexon designing these, they'd probably release them as nx items called earplugs, super earplugs, and avatar earplugs. If they wanted to go the extra mile, they'd make avatar earplugs only block the messages and design eyeplugs (lol) for the actual picture itself. And of course make them extremely expensive and only block the ones they're designed for.

How will they lose money, with people buying both items?
People spamming smegas would still spam, and people who don't use smegas will buy their 'earplugs'.

I think it would be best to have some way just to block the pop up in the top right corner, but leave the message in the chat box alone. That way would stop people from lagging without keeping others from using the megaphones.

Isn't having them appear in the corner the whole point of using av smegas? If they made it a setting, I'm sure a lot of people will turn them on, then seeing the av smegas have no more purpose, those spammers start buying regular smegas. Nexon would lose (a little) profit, and they wouldn't like that.

Earplugs sound much more up their alley.

I made an angry commentary about these a while back and referred to the patch that spawned this evil creation 'the worst patch ever'. I stand by that notion.

There is no reason or necessity to have some moron pop up in your face talking about their drama or who they want you to spam, etc. Your buffs usually cover up 80+% of the text and usually a similar amount of the character anyway. So.. what's the point of the avatar megaphone? It lags people.

My computer is pretty decent (built almost 2-ish years ago with upgrades every now and then), but there's still a very detectable frame skip when they show up. Granted, it's only for 150-200ms or so. Doesn't make it any less noticeable for me though.

It's a lot more noticeable than that in places such as Zakum as well. Cough cough.

In short, it was an "interesting" experiment, but in practice, there is no reason for these to exist in the first place. They do nothing useful and many things harmful. That makes them bad. They were a bad idea and they should not exist. We should not be forced to pay for a solution for fixing a bad idea.

So I guess my vote is no, they shouldn't sell a fix to these megaphones. They should destroy them.

Its not like you notice them while you are training anyway cuz ur skills go over the peoples faces, and the part that goes into your char is less noticeable than ur chat itself

They used to lag me on my old computer, but luckily not anymore. I can say though that they were so fucking annoying when I trained at Wolf Spiders... Yay, free deaths.

Because people who smega are aware that everyone can see their smega. If a good amount of people are buying earplugs, what is the point in smega-ing? So if there are rarely any smegas, why buy earplugs? Of course this depends on many factors, but its a possible situation =P

But agree that they can get annoying every now and then...esp if you lag in mid-air of a jump during a jump quest >__>...AND you're near the finish T-T

The main problem with these things is that menus, buffs, and other pomegranate on your screen already eats up 50% of the 800x600 space, and these things kill another chunk of the available space. Here I am advocating for tabbed chat and smaller menus, and they come by and drop one of those screen blockers in my face.

They cause a little lag for me, but it's not enough to bother me unless I'm in the middle of a jump quest.

I wouldn't pay money to buy those 'cause I only lag one or two seconds if at all.
Waste of NX for me.

They should just have an option to turn off the image part and keep the text. Like regular smegas.

Would I buy it? Nope.

They were annoying the first day or two but fact of the matter is, I dont even notice them anymore. I dont lag by them, they dont get glitched/stuck on my screen, etc. I personally find then lame looking to begin with so I dont see why so many people use them but that's an entirely different topic.

I have to agree. After a while you get use to them. In bera, Not many people use them. If they do it's usually for a 100-150 Congratulations or just a NX Whoar Spammer.

No they should not sell Avatar Smega Blockers...they should have a game option to turn the avatar part of then off. I'm ok with seeing the message in my chat window.

OMG! I hate avatar smegas!! These stupid things had me killed a few times while training !

I play Maple in 2 locations, home, and university computer lab.
When I play at home, I lag when those things pop up... if I was playing my mage at a high level place. Sayonara.
When I play my sniper it's okay, fog is not leathal for me, but where I am moving to after I hit 80 will matter. I don't want to waste charms =______=
Oh well, hopefully I'll get a new computer at Christmas (not likely )

I think they should. People would buy them, and even if people stopped buying Avatar smegas, they'd still make money since avatar smegas are only 400 NX higher than regular smegas, I believe.

Remember..nexon is a business...and nexon<3 money. The point of having an avatar smega is to make people pay more money for an extra feature. If people are just blocking it...why have that item in the first place?

However, like I said above... if 50% of the people are buying blockers priced at say, 10k for one month... It would get Nexon more money. The avatar smegaers would witch to regular smegas, only 40 cents less, while Nexon GAINS $10 for each person who bought a blocker. Unless things go horribly wrong, they SHOULD make moneyz.

so... 50% of the ppl bought the avatar blocker for 4k NX lasting 3 month.

asumming that there are 3 million players nexon just made a $6 million profit in 3 month. that alone is more money than the original money made by buying smegas.
