But before anyone goes and hates on them for not being too open about hackers. Think about what would happen if they were public with all the hacks in game and how they would deal with them?

If they ever did that, it would just encourage the hackers to make more hacking software and it would alert other players who are tempted to cheat to download/abuse those hacks even more causing major problems.

Example:

Nexon: DC hacks exsist, they make people dissapear and it makes the game unfair for others.

Nub player; OMFGWTF dc hax make peepel go boom? WUTWUT? -goes to illegal website to download.-
This post is win.

That’s why we only have unscheduled game updates for something extremely serious, not just an embarrassing error (hello, Khadia!).

I do tend to complain about extended downtime (and not unscheduled maintenance), but only if the expected completion time is extended two or more times. Hell, if you can't finish up in 2 hours, DON'T say you'll finish it in 2 hours! Even if you're certain you can finish it in 1 hour and 50 minutes, don't say it'll be done in 2 bloody hours; always give at least 30 minutes of extra time in case things go awry. =.=

Remember Murphy's Law (lol).

Note: Mainly talking about MapleSEA here, but whatever.

The only thing I question is when will we start seeing the changes, the patches, and bug fixes that actually arrive, happen, and are noted? Plus, another good question, is this more propaganda blog or is this a blog that actually has teeth?

I'm done with giving nexon the benefit of the doubt any longer with the amount of neglect and haphazard handling of additions that have gone into MapleStory. I'll say it if nobody else does...

We want proof things are being done. Even if it's server side bug fixes, database fixes, or even full patches or dare I say it again, subversion patches, we want to see them recorded and published.

They have given published records of bugs/hacks being fixed. Do you even read some of the nexon notices? Chaos Scroll hack, pitch hack, duey hack,ht pends with hammers, server transfers that take away hammer slot, dupe mesos. Their is more hacks/bugs that have been fixed but their not going to openly say that as stated previosuly by random.

Also in patch update notes they give a list of bugs going to be fixed.

-snip-

What? That much is absolutely true when talking about professional QA (IE Paid, not necessarily good). Heck, save for the two weeks of final, I loved those kinds of days. Getting paid while chillin and waiting for the servers to be updated/revs to be burned onto disks for everyone a la test kit format. Sometimes where I worked we ended up being told to go home after 4 hours waiting for the update to arrive (All paid time). I suppose there is the downside when you're trying to get a test case done and you keep having new versions come out and having to start from scratch over and over and OVER again, but hey, that's the job in a nutshell anyway.

Anyway, yeah, I suppose this explanation would help those who know nothing about the process get a better idea, but it isn't really anything special. It's an expectation. If they have such problems, hit up the local temp agency and get some more monkeys on site. Or of course play the wild card of public testing.

EDIT: Ninja'd to hell.

Not what he's asking.

As for the blog, it's all craps. Nothing but desperation to overlay some legitimacy in their structure. There're known bugs that existed for years, and probably is as famous as the game itself. I dont know which "unofficial" forum they scan, but obviously they missed out alot.

As for testing. I call bull on that again. They have zero quality controls. There are predictions, bugs found here, etc that should've been found when testing, but nooo, what happened?

I recalled NxJoe mentioned they log everything you do, and can trace back to find out lots of things. More than one occasions arise that required the data of the log and what did they do? They let monkeys draws random names from a barrel to see who to ban.

what is he asking then? Recrods of things being fixed? Do we really need to know exactlly what goes on during a server check? From the bare bone detail to when a developer wrote a note down and ate a chip?

Even if nexon said what they were doing during server checks people will say "their just sitting on their ass doing nothing, this is bs" so whats the point

Street it's not Nexon isn't doing much but it's how often they choose to actually fix something. Before the Chaos HT Necklace Hammer issue was fixed, when was the last time we actually had a server check or some real bug fixed that was high up on the list of the worst of the worst? You're missing the point, and please don 't go edit your post and cover up for yourself either after I've posted this, I noticed you do that.

In regards to other problems MapleStory is facing... the Chaos HT Hammer issue was small potatoes. They could and should have addressed other more pressing issues. The problem is they addressed a small insignificant issue that the community didn't care about.

It's like, do you build the house before you place the furniture or do you place the furniture and build the house around it? Compared to the house the furniture is unnecessary. Anybody can sleep on the floor. Might be cold but still it's a roof over your head. This is what I'm comparing Nexon treatment of issues. The Chaos HT Necklace was furniture. The real problem could have been "let's work the disconnecting issue" which would have been the equivalent of building the house.

Server check to remove ehanced items and the hack, i think that is high up on the list. 300 att weapons isnt that big of a deal.

Cover up? LOL i'm not you dude

70+ pend isnt game breaking to you? Knowing that you will never have that pend unless you pay 1b mesos that is small poatoes?

What are pressing issues going on in maple right now. They already know about the dc issue. Give me a list

Yo dude your not sarah and i dont feel like going more than 2 posts with you. I'm done with you

Why does there have to a be a heavy arguement in every Nexon related post on this forum?

Honestly, I'm just glad they're taking their time to explain it to the people who didn't know better about bugs and such.

Street, game busting gear is rare still. A 70+ 1b pendant isn't easy to come by either. It's not like everyone had one. If everyone DID have one then yeah that would be game breaking.

Street you've read the list on about ever post I've been on regarding them, and those listed by other people. I fail to see why you think people haven't said anything when people have been saying things, if not everything, in every developer, bug, glitch, and crash error related topic. The list is there. Why don't you go look it up yourself for once. Sheesh.

IDK Ryu... IDK.

And who the pineapples is Sarah?:f6: Anyone?

I used to work on a QA team and honestly, these guys are doing a pretty bad job not catching the many so very obvious bugs in our archives, then again, the failure doesn't necessarily lie in the detection process, perhaps they should be more interactive with us on this problem: Hey guise, we found out that the monsters have been spawning pretty damned awkwardly but no one's mom is going to get cancer from that so lulz, sit tight and enjoy your cereal. That aside, good read. Feels more entertaining than Hime at least.

Sarah is everything, everything is Sarah. She is in you, in me, and in the lion.

Oh, I sent them 3 tickets with screenshots of the five-hundred-some-fucking-ty WATK Stonetooth, still see it around. Screenshots of that dramatic smega bickering between bitches and whores the other day (sorry Danny, I don't see what you see in them) and nope, nothing happens. It has been established again and again after the thousandth time that you used to be able to (and surprised! you still can) easily dive under their radar with Storage/Duey, but they never learned, never (see: +11 Lunchbox?).

If they read the forums, they don't read them enough.
The VIP Crossbow is proof of that.

Also, and while they avoid discussing hacks for reasons of security, they should have someone knowledgeable (i.e., a programmer, not a "gm") keeping close watch on hacking forums. The time it takes them to realize a hack is around, to figure out how it works, and to block it, suggests they don't do that, either.

Finally, they need more in-game experience. There are way too many things that "every player knows" that Nexon seems oblivious to. This includes everything from missing hit boxes to hackers' favorite haunts. I suppose the MWLB was supposed to be this, but it seems useless. Everyone in Kradia knew Temple of Time was full of hackers, and yet they went unbanned and their hacks unpatched for a long long time. A whole guild of ksers and dc hackers terrorized the server and even put up a boasting thread on SW, yet nothing happened to them for months, until the guild master tried to dc-hack a GM during an event...

Other than that, I agree this blog is useful in informing people who don't know how these things are done. As a developer myself, I'd have liked to see more about their code review practices (the thing that helps prevent some bugs from ever happening), version management software (the thing that supposedly prevents locally-fixed bugs from coming back on the next KMS update), and bug prioritizing (who decides what to fix ASAP and what can stay untouched forever).

Nexon has already said something about the VIP Xbow, i'll try find the notice if someone doesnt beat me to it.

This blog shedding a little insight into their process for bug locating and fixing is quite a nice turn of events.

Both of you made me sad. Of course Eurydice is a lady. And of course it's not unique. The thing that makes me saddest is that I had the name Eurydice saved from after Beta ended, and I have no proof I had the name saved. . .

They did, but only after the patch went live with the faulty data.
The error had been pointed out as soon as Tespia opened, in the extraction thread for it. It's not a bug that requires much effort to duplicate and test and figure out a solution for, it's just a set of mistyped (or rather, miscopied) numbers that could be fixed in a minute. Yet they did not do it, and the version that went to the game servers, many days later, still had the same wrong data.
Only after we started laughing at them, did they put in an awkward server-sided workaround, and post a notice about it being "just a visual glitch". Pfeh.

The only thing that is clear in this thread is that those who are bashing Nexon in this regard have no idea how difficult it is to code a game this massive, while trying to integrate code that is completely different from the base code they're adding it into.
