By Definition i stand corrected.

Forum: a public meeting or assembly for open discussion

Social Networking: The interaction between a group of people who share a common interest

I personally do not consider southperry to be a... social networking site. It is merely a forum in my eyes. The closest thing that it has that would be considered "Social Networking" would be the Blog area.
At least here we dont have to deal with "Status Updates" and Feeds about how cute your boyfriend was last weekend. That pomegranate stays in the funhaus and i can choose not to view it.

"A social network service is an online service, platform, or site that focuses on building and reflecting of social networks or social relations among people, e.g., who share interests and/or activities."

Nope, doesn't sound like SP at all.

I don't put my everyday happenings at a desperate attempt to gain everyone's attention. I don't post my pictures either. I don't use this account to play games with other people on the same site. I am able to discuss topics people post at me, without it having to do with a person in particular.

I could go on and on, but it's definately not the same.

The thing is, Social networks focus on people. Forums focus on a topic, or topics.

You're networking with people who have the same interest.

With FB you're networking with people who know you/vice versa.

Roxas Wrote:Southperry is discussing a 2D game intended for kids, Facebook discussions are typically about things that happened in real life. If I had to choose which is lamer, I know I'd choose SP.

Most of that real life stuff is about as lame or lamer than MapleStory stuff.

Maybe your friends, but I'd definitely rather chat with my friends on facebook rather than the people on here.

Please do, and also, please tell us how this has affected you in any way.

I don't get why you all have discontent with facebook.

I think the problem here is: you guys need friends on FB that aren't sluts and whores. That'll fix your "lame status updates" (which you can disable getting feeds from a person so I don't know why you're nagging about that in the first place).

Make better IRL friends, guys.

I don't find anything wrong with FaceBook, but more with what the people who use FaceBook do. I mean, really... Why the f'uck would you detail your daily life and s'hit when people can cause harm to you in some way (like those people who were robbed in New York when they put their status up on FaceBook saying they're not at home. The guy/people who did those robbings ran off with over $200,000 worth of valuables)?

Again, Networking focuses on people.

Forums, on topics.

When a company gets too big, there will be problems.

I looked at todays new topics on the internet, BusinessWeek has a topic "Facebook Sells Your Friends". I didnt really do too much digging, there is plenty of controversy over "how private is your information on Facebook".

I personally dont really trust Zuckerberg anyway. Back in May of this year, Instant Messages surfaced from when Facebook first started popped up of Mark Zuckerberg saying:

"Zuck: Yeah so if you ever need info about anyone at Harvard

Zuck: Just ask.

Zuck: I have over 4,000 emails, pictures, addresses, SNS

[Redacted Friend's Name]: What? How'd you manage that one?

Zuck: People just submitted it.

Zuck: I don't know why.

Zuck: They "trust me"

Zuck: Dumb fucks."

Quoted from here.

It seems you just want to butt heads Roxas. Whatever, thats fine. Go ahead and like your Facebook and like your IE9 and whatever. I just wont have to put up with your fanboy crap anymore. I didnt think that someone could actually irk me enough on the internet, but CONGRATULATIONS! You are the first person that I am putting on my Ignore List.
