-Hime- Wrote:Attention Maplers,

There has been a raise in concern about MapleStory’s compatibility with Windows Vista or 7 especially with 64-bit systems. These players have experienced frequent disconnections from the game, while at the same time other players have experienced no issues at all.

If you are experiencing disconnection issues with MapleStory and are using Windows Vista or 7 please try these solutions.

If you encounter the “This program has known compatibility issues” error
When this error message occurs please click the “Run program” option. You can also check the box “Don’t show this message again” if you do not want the Program Compatibility Assistant to alert you again.

Run MapleStory in Compatibility Mode
MapleStory is not optimized for Windows Vista or 7. However, changing the compatibility mode of the program may reduce your game issues.
- Go your MapleStory client folder (usually located at C:\Nexon\MapleStory).
- Right-click MapleStory.exe
- Access the Compatibility tab
- Under Compatibility Mode check the box “Run this in compatibility mode for:” and select Windows XP Service Pack 2.
- Click OK and restart your computer.

Your anti-virus may prompt you a confirmation to run the program so be sure to allow it. If Program Compatibility Assistant appears please click the “Run program” option.

If the provided solutions do not work please post on this thread the information requested below.

Your computer’s Operating System (Please indicate if you are using 32-bit or 64-bit)
Your computer’s Graphics Card (Make and Model)
Your Computer’s Memory (RAM)
Your Internet Connection Speed
Frequency of the Disconnection (how many times an hour & be as detailed as possible)

Because every computer specs can differ we are trying to examine and resolve the disconnection issues for players that may be a result of the operating system. Thank you!

Go go go everyone! Post away and be informative and precise as possible! =D

...it's -Hime-, so everything must be a lie.

For starters:

Compatibility Mode doesn't work for Vista and 7 anymore since they added HackShield. Hackshield will actually prevent the game from even working if this is set.

Secondly:

You can set the DEP to not check the MapleStory.exe process and the game will still crash on pre-described events.

And thirdly:

Since -Hime- and the rest of the staff have a lot of the old users banned or have people who just refuse to post other than members who claim to not play any longer but still want to have an opinion, can you say incomplete data?

And their suggestions to fix it... well when you kick a dead horse, it doesn't come back to life now does it?

yeah if these "fixes" worked, we wouldn't be complaining about dc issues now would we?

So let me get this straight... they want everyone having issues to post in this thread so they can go over them?

inb4 they don't read any of them.

Didn't MapleStory officially come out public AFTER Vista was originally released?

What?
Vista came out globally in 2007, and came out officially in 2006. MapleStory is a 2003(kMS)/2005(gMS) game.

Vista was first released to developers during 2005 on TechNet when it was in it's Release Candidate stages. They gave them the SDKs, the compilers, everything needed to make an application for Vista and XP. Pre-release but still available if you had connections.

Still 4 years Vista has been out officially. MapleStory has been out, what, 5 years? So, between 2006 and now 2010, they have made zero effort to do anything about the problem till now? This issue should have been taken care of back in 2006 if not 2007 for Vista and then double checked in late 2009 or early 2010, this year, for Windows 7.

Sorry I mixed my dates up but still... why so long a wait to fix a problem that's at least 4 if not 5 years old?

kMS didn't fix this instantly either, and even with their "compatible" client you still run into compatibility issues. Being said, you shouldn't expect gMS to do an amazing job either.

Try 8 years old. The WZ file header makes note of a 2002 copyright date. At that point, Windows XP was only released for retail purchase the October prior. Maplestory may have been released in 2005 in NA, but it was developed back in 2002. If you look at the system requirements, they recommend you run it on 98ME, 2000, and Windows XP. Given the time in which this game was developed, it's no surprise that these operating systems are the requirements.

I'm not. Nexon will probably tell people it's a graphics card issue, a CPU issue, an OS issue, a RAM, or even a connection issue.

A thousand monkeys at a thousand PCs... and still no progress is made. But then again what does a monkey know other than eatting bananas, screaming, and hurling poop?

Saddest thing I had to do today was e-mail a friend and give her my specs to post to the Nexon forums since I and my opinions aren't welcome there. Sad that they value the opinion of non-players over current players. It's even sadder when I see a post by a friend where a user who quit and doesn't play is saying people like me should have quit long ago. I'm like Gee... you don't play anymore but you say your opinion is more valid than mine, a current player? Wow! *sarcasim*

WHEN you encounter the “This program has known compatibility issues” error
When this error message occurs please click the “Run program” option. Also when you drive in the street, ignore the STOP signs and keep driving. Any loud bumps you hear are simply figments of your imagination. You can also check the box “Don’t show this message again”, because we want you to pretend along with us that faulty coding for MS is the problem and Windows is telling you as such. You DO NOT want the Program Compatibility Assistant to alert you again, pls.

Run MapleStory in Compatibility Mode, and trash those 15 seconds of your life. Achievement unlocked: Time Wasted.
MapleStory is not optimized for Windows Vista or 7 HOLY pomegranate WE ACTUALLY NEEDED TO TELL YOU THIS. You obviously could not have figured this out on your own. This game hasn't had an operating system update in YEARS. Oops we did just admit to this game being archaic!?!? However, changing the compatibility mode of the program may reduce your game issues (lol).
- Go your MapleStory client folder (usually located at C:\Nexon\MapleStory).
- Right-click MapleStory.exe
- Access the Compatibility tab
-Smash your monitor in the face
- Under Compatibility Mode check the box “Run this in compatibility mode for:” and select Windows XP Service Pack 2.
- Click OK and restart your computer.

Your anti-virus may prompt you a confirmation to run the program so be sure to allow it. If Program Compatibility Assistant appears please click the “Run program” option.

If the provided solutions do not work please post on this thread the information requested below.

Your computer’s Operating System (Please indicate if you are using 32-bit or 64-bit) this is the problem, and coding a new client is the only option
Your computer’s Graphics Card (Make and Model) -dedicated GPU or IGP, this isn't the cause of d/c issue, since there are so many people with different GPUs that get d/ced
Your Computer’s Memory (RAM)- read above, but adjust for RAM memory clock speed, size, manufacturer, timings, dual/triple channel, ganged/ungangedetc.
Your Internet Connection Speed- now i know you're grasping for whatever data
Frequency of the Disconnection (how many times an hour & be as detailed as possible) - hey something relevant! Except it should've been asked 'how often and what are you doing in the game when you d/c"

So I suppose this "solution" explains why my ticket about it was finally closed today. They had sent me 7 we're backlogged, but we'll get to you messages over the past month and a half about it, but only closed it now with basically the same crap they put in that post.

I still think the only reason they didn't close it immediately was because I associated it with being unable to use an NX item (FM shop) with any reliability at all.

All the same, nothing's fixed.

Seriously, Nexon? How fucking stupid do you have to be to copy paste NON WORKING "solutions" that the players have already tried a million times? One of the solutions doesn't even apply since hack shield considers compatibility mode to be a hacking attempt. Good job Nexon. Good fucking job.

I'm amazing Nexon Am has the audacity to tackle the problem on their own when Nexon Korea couldn't do a perfect job with their billions of wons spent. I'm sure they're worried people will notice what stupid pomegranate they have done to their product behind Nexon Korea's back once BB hits and Win7/Vista still doesn't work.

Personally I say they should just block all Win7/Vista users and be done with their bawwing. XP or the highway.

Sad that the first three is outdated or can't handle MS; two others aren't even on there. Too heavy for old school but too dumb for new.

This won't solve anything and this poses the problem of immediate, and noticable, profit loss for Nexon because a lot of XP users are actually upgrading to 7 and 7 is gaining a lot of ground.

In last month's OS market share report, it shows Windows XP losing ~10% of its market share in only 10 months since the release of Windows 7. That's a massive drop in a short period of time. On the other hand, Windows 7 has gained ~16% of the market share in that same time period.

Nexon will eventually be forced to make their client fully compatible by the direction the market is going in the near future. For Nexon, staying with XP will eventually be like fighting a losing battle.
