Ray, sword was just responding to the comment sarah made about him, then it appeared as if pan was agreeing with sarah just a couple of posts later... there was no need for that comment to him NOW, 2-3 pages later.

There's only two pages in this thread for me, I run with 40 posts per page.
I think this post makes a third page.

Just sayin man, he gets picked on enough from what I have seen. No need to poke the guy for something from a while ago.
(I have a great deal of empathy, always been an issue of mine since I was little.)
That's enough OT for me though: I should probably say that I think them opening a line of communication from their development team is a good idea.
More than often enough, most MMO's simply communicate things from the developers through use of GM's and forums. It is about time they start
talking to us about the finer parts of the game. Also it is nice that they are following through with something they said a while ago when they had
done the GM interviews, I believe it said they were working on something like this to talk about development to the community.

A while ago is a measurement of time, not posts. Different people view the forum on different spans of posts (100 for me, so all on same page) and since you're not a moderator it's not your job to be telling people when and where to post and ensure they're following your own personal rules of etiquette. Please make comments like that in private, not within the thread if you feel absolutely compelled to share them.

Isn't this a contradiction? Client-side data structure seems to indicate standardized data structure (otherwise Fiel wouldn't be able to extract from different versions of the game using the same extractor).
Takebacker Wrote:Then don't do the quests and level your ass up. You have no real argument for neo tokyo being hard now that potential is out.
Trust me, it's not DPS that's the problem. It's the 0.00001% drop rate. You could down a Horntail with the total damage you dish out to beat Neo Tokyo, excluding bosses. Also no one mentioned 2x drop tickets/family drop is a req, meaning you need to buy a cash item to beat it.
Combattente Wrote:Orly? What about some boss attacks which deal 12k+? You would have not to fight and let people with enough HP fight instead to get through some of the bosses as an unwashed ranged class.
I crunched some numbers last month and it turns out potential HP equips will be enough to get a 16x marksmen through Aufheben or any other boss except Pink Been.
Cancambo Wrote:I keep reading it as "yuri dice" but that is pretty irrelevant.
Yuri is good on paper. So is getting "Eurydice" to write a dev blog.
Takebacker Wrote:Yeah, I think they'd opt for leveling npc instead though. Much faster results that way.
Plus it doesn't skew the grinding levelling process. GMS might not even need its own test though seeing they already did it with KMST.

The only thing that isn't standardized is the encryption which can vary slightly from version to version.

Honestly, I don't like their justification for taking so long with certain things. Not even video game ports require so much time, and the port teams are never that big. If certain content takes you months to do, it certainly doesn't sound like you're working on it from beginning to end all the time. Also, such an excuse can only go so far as the coding platform. I'm sure Maplestory is written on the same code base. This guy makes it sound like he's coding from C# to Python for sh!t's sake.
Let's put it another way. If hackers are able to turn the source code of the entire freaking game to Java to attempt to avoid a legal battle with Nexon in terms of private servers in SHORTER TIME than it takes you to code a patch, your team's got problems.
Dead masteria is dead...
Jellyflower Wrote:I see this as nothing but crowd-control, especially revolving some of the most disgusting hacks recently. It's just their way of saying, "Sorry, it takes time." If they were more committed, they would spend more energy on in-game patrol and more frequent patches. I wish they would just drop Combat Arms and focus on maple.
Thats an epicly stupid idea there, especialy from you. Combat arms generates almost A THIRD of nexon's income.
If Nexon were really keen on these updates like the devs say they are. (Which I know for sure the devs work hard because they're probably short staffed with loads of work to do, yet they get it done anyway.) They'd improve their communication from Korea. Meaning, have Devs in korea pre-translate the patch, send it over, let North America Nexon do the dirty work of sorting it out. Although it's not simple since english is considered a second language, it wouldn't hurt them in korea to at least help out with their crap rather than let everyone else sort through it and maybe unearth 12 glitches along the way.

To clarify that - The WZ are standardized, since they're nothing more than a consistent form of data expression.
The client and the server codebase both have variations among the different locales due to translations, minor differing features and functionality and differing security integrations.

Could this turn into something?
What, so if I'm reading this correctly, refering to the "square peg in a round hole" and "testing" speech, Nexon just admitted they know nothing about what all they have been doing, have no idea what went on with Tespia recently, and the administrative team and development teams have no communication between each other?
Wow... it's like watching Nexon train-wreck themselves admiting their own stupidity and incompetance.

No your not reading correctly at all

They are saying when they get new content it wont fit in to our version smoothly all the time, reason we have bugs when a patch happens. Also their is nothing about tespia in the blog. Also with tespia all the content was Their hasn't even been any major glitches with this patch. If you know any major glitch please by all means list them out.

Let's see:
Disconnecting/crashing at multi-body/multi-form bosses (mostly related to Windows Vista and 7 but has beenn confirmed on some XP machines) aka Zakum, Nibelung, Red Nerg to name a few.
Change Channels after 10 minutes of in game activity causes instability with connection to the login server often resulting in disconnections.
Unknown game crash where game exits to desktop giving no error code read-out at complete random.
In all there are dozens of bugs that even affect logins, PIN entry, and some that have no explaination as to why they happen. Some even involve the music from areas nochanging correctly for no reason. Others graphical artifacts appearing when entring and exiting areas.
Some are OS related, but other's aren't...
It's just getting Nexon to acknowledge them that's the problem.
Even then there is a daunting question... where did all these patches and content originate and what differences were there between these versions of MapleStory that are different code-wise from the region they imported it from?
I've noticed this for a while that we get content in from other regions but who's to say those regions don't have a patch or much needed bug fix we don't or vice versa?
Importing code from differing regions, as they said can be tricky, but even if it feels seamless in many ways, there could be underlying factors not realized? Did they code this differently? Was this patched the same way? Was code used by one version deprecated in another making the new code in some aspects of the engine obsolete, while in other areas it's more advanced?
In truth they should be doing what they mentioned about writing everything back from scratch. This way there are no discrepancies, no deprecation, and nothing unknown in value.
Think about this for a second:
Program XYZ from region 1 has a value in it labeled as this:
[use module=A]
In region 2 they have something similar but not the same:
[use module=A]
[else use module=B]
Region 1 imports this code from region 2 but without realizing it they do not add a value for module B. In the code module B is linked too, has the proper code calls, but somewhere inside the code the handling instructions are simply not written. If Program XYZ then gets a mishandle code and tries to operate module B the program crashes. The programmers don't know why it crashed but it did crash when loading module B. They test the code, nothing is directly found, as every piece of code to work module B is there except the handling instructions. New versions are made and released that still try to load Module B and the bug continues to happen. A year or so later a random developer notices the handling instruction are not written for Module B and it's finally fixed. All this time one part of the code that they assumed was there wasn't there because they didn't import in that part of the code or it was never written, but the program compiled, debugged, and worked as it should have making the problem that much harder to detect and determine the cause of.

Just give it some time, if anything we'll see Masteria AFTER Big Bang.

After playing vindictus for a couple days straight, it begs the question as to why that game can have a very easy to use and descriptive automated bug reporting... yet maple can't?
Does anyone know if the same type of bug reporting program could even be instituted into maplestory?

Anything could be added to any program including a crash report feature. One of the most popular bug reporting agents is BugZilla which can be configured to send crash reports, logs, and even screenshots back to the server intended. They could add this or any other bug reporter. The problem is Nexon doesn't want to do anything to MapleStory because GMS is so poorly coded now, anything added would only escalate the problems. You don't just cut, copy, and paste code for at least 2 years and don't do adaquate testing prior to each release and not expect bugs.
I said it in another post, at this point GMS needs to be completely rewritten from scratch. Content can stay but the game engine needs a rebuild so if there are any underlying issues they can be fixed and removed the right way. It needs it bad. Look at the developer's words. They probably C.C.P.ed so much stuff from KMS without realizing there are fundamental differences between KMS and GMS. OS version built for, DirectX foundation layer version, architecture compiled for. The game engines for GMS and KMS are alike, but they aren't exactly alike.
I'm actually at this point hoping Big bang fixes a lot of stuff, but the problem I see is, Nexon won't do all the work needed and will just C.C.P. more stuff on the existing code and the problems will only get progressively worse.

Well I will say this. Wizet was absolutely HORRIBLE with MapleStory. Don't go saying oh KMS is the best thing ever no its not. There were tons of extensions and bug fixes in their big bang patch. Wizet coded the game horrible and if anything NEXON did better with the game than Wizet would ever do.Look at MapleStory beta when Wizet had it, it was pathetic and terrible. Now look when NEXON took over. Things got way way way WAY better.

Only difference was Wizet actually had GMs present in the game at all times talking to the players.
Nexon needs to cut the crap and fix the game. The problem is they have no idea what to fix first and don't have the manpower to even accomplish it.
Everyone on the Nexon forums criticized me for saying to hold on on new content and wait and told me I and my ideas were outdated, useless, and needed to be retired, and that I should quit the game. Wow... look how 0.89 turned out. A big steaming pile of rotten brown stinky pineapples. I can only imagine how 0.90 will turn out at this rate... a bigger steaming pile IMO.
Sure one bug will get fixed on 0.90 but then six more will replace it. What good will that accomplish? Heck no bugs from 0.88 got fixed and 0.89 added more. Gee...
People think Big Bang is going to be the Almighty Holy Chinchilla of God patch for MapleStory... got news for you... Big Bang wasn't even near perfect and now they've had to re-edit back in older content and abilities because half the stuff they added didn't even work right and still doesn't. Big Bang for GMS won't do us any bit of good unless Nexon get's off their useless rear ends and rewrites the whole game from the ground up to be bug free.
Problem is... ain't gonna happen! We might even be lucky if Big Bang doesn't go bang in the server and destroys the game entirely as well as the servers. I correct my earlier estimate of 4 patches for Big Bang... I estimate at least 10+ patches given the work ethics of Nexon.
