I searched for the Potential bonuses for Shields but I couldnt find anything...so what bonuses can shields have?
Is it worth trying to find potentialed visitor shields for thieves/mages?

They seem to have the general armor bonuses, at least. So you can probably get a nice %INT mage shield, or %LUK for thieves.

For magicians it probably is going to beat a maple/esther shield easily...
For bandits/shadowers is it better(or more economical) to try and get a visitor shield ,or potential a Khanjar/Dragon Khanjar that already has attack?

A Unique 2 line 3rd or last visitor shild beats a 3 line warrior/thief/magician maple shield by 1%, if all bonuses are the main stat.
Visitor: 9% int, 6% int, 15% total
Maple: 6% int, 4% int, 4% int, 14% total
So visitor shields are pretty much better, hands down. Good thing I've got one for every class.

A 1% bonus is only worth about 2-2.5 weapon attack or magic attack (after BB). It's not a huge advantage. A 3 line shield is significantly better, though.

Ordinary 71+ warrior shields are easy enough to find or Make, though, so you shouldn't be comparing to Maple Warrior Shields.

A 3 line is definitely better, but getting 2 lines as main stat is defenitely more common than 3 lines main stat, so it's better and it costs less.
Edit: that's true, Sapta. Still, for thieves and magicians it holds true.

Well yeah, but they all take a collective dump compared to the alien shields. :/ You're better off buying a potentialed alien than regular.

Dragon Khanjars are better for thieves because the att on it alone boost around 6~10% overall damage depending on your total att(converting to %luk bonus, say a thief with 120% luk bonus, will be around 220%*6%=13% luk) So alien shields are garbage for thieves.
A perfectly scrolled VIP mage or warrior shield will be around the same compared to perfectly scrolled maple magician/warrior shield because of the 3 extra slot. But if you're talking about perfect 12/8/8 bonus, the VIP shields win hands down, otherwise considering 12/8 and 6/4, it comes close to matching when your total weapon att/magic att is around 265 without shield with around 140% stats bonus. Since magic att is generally higher, the bar is easily reached for mages. Plus the VIP shields will save you 3 slots to scroll.
So in summary: (given end game stats 120~140% stats bonus, 250+ weapon/magic att without shield)
Maple warrior shield/VIP warrior shield
VIP magician shield
Dragon Khanjar

Dragon Khanjar pushes you to 160 dex / 80 str though, or something along those lines, so you can potentially drop a fair amount of secondary stats by using a VIP shield. When you're looking at around 1100 in your primary stat endgame (before percent gear) 6-10% only means about 70-110 less base/equip luk.
It's especially relevant now that we have dexless endgame weapons really. A 15 luk earring over a 15 dex earring means 1.5% more damage, cause it's added before the percent bonuses. If they do fix VIP HT pendants it might become a problem to have 160 secondary stats without sacrificing primary in any way.

Dragon Khanjar
For one thing, dragon khanjars have become relatively expensive/hard to find. The visitor shields are easy to get right now. I agree though, if one is able to get his hands on a Dragon Khanjar, it is worth it, even with the extra str needed.
I disagree on the warrior shields though. That extra 7% that can be obtained from the last visitor shield outweighs the extra 6-9 att one can get from a maple warrior shield.
Take very end game, a level 200 warrior with 999 str and 150 WA (not sure if this is accurate, just roll with it), using a 1h sword
1.20(4*999+23)*150/100=7234 max range
now with 21% potential and 14 WA from shield:
1.2(4*999*1.21+23)*164/100=9560 max range
now 14% potential and 20 WA from shield:
1.2(4*999*1.14+23)*170/100=9340
And it's equally rare to get 21% on the higher level shield as 14% on the lower level, but it's more difficult to get three extra 60% scrolls to land.
The same thing applies to the mage shield. Even if it's not the VIP, it still wins out.

If you want an example, when I switch to 1h sword I'll have around 160 WA (no shield) and I have 878 str (level 152) before including percent gear. Will be 1118 str at 200.
You're missing out percentage from gear though.
Since %str and atk are both multiplied straight onto range, you take
total%str * totalatk
Whichever is higher wins
So eg. I have 191 atk and 121% str:
1.21*191 = 231.1
Add on a 15% 20 wa shield
1.36*211 = 286.96
Or a 21% 14 wa shield
1.42*205 = 291.1
As % str raises the difference is narrower. If I had 190 atk and 190% str, extra points in both would be directly equal. As it is, % str are better than atk right now, so +6% str > +6 atk.

I think that in practical terms, regular 71+ warrior shields are still better than Visitor. Because they are easy to find or make, it's much more feasible to get a 3-line one, scroll it to 15 or more attack (using 30% scrolls), and cube it to 9/6/6 or better. VIP warrior shields are way too rare for that kind of treatment, and Last/3rd have no real advantage over a normal shield.

I'm not concerned about Warrior Shields, which is why I didnt bring them up.
Anyway, for those who cant afford to scroll thief/mage shields with (m)attack, clean potential visitor shields are a better option, right?

For a mage, definitely. For a thief, a clean Khanjar (even 13 atk) would probably be better than a cheap potential'd visitor shield. For a good one, where you spend $100+ on cubes, might as well just drop the scrolls on it.

Some of you are arguing this based on the assumption that 12/8/8 or 9/6/6 stats are readily achievable on a 3-line item.
I don't think most people are prepared to spend $3000 per item cubing? Are you?
Math: Odds getting desired stat per line 1/14, 3 lines (1/14)^3, assuming equal odds of all 14 possible bonus types on shield, and selection for each line is independant of others.
So expected cost = (14^3 + cubes required to reach unique status) * 1.2
As an aside, I would argue that 2-line items are not much worse for regular players, since 9%/garbage is just as good as 9%/garbage/garbage. 3-line are only better if you are preparing to spend a fortune on cubes.
Granted you are twice as likely to get 9%/6% on a 3-liner, but still very unlikely.
