The Rebirth of Maple World! (big bang)
Fiel Wrote:Nexon released Aran in December and brought in a huge amount of players.

that month was pretty dry for big releases. PixelJunk Shooter and Zelda Spirit Tracks were decent. EVE had a Dominion but it was a mildly warm reception. There was also Dirt 2, which had a decent reception as well. No big sluggers.

yeah but rayhovite makes a really good point, last year nothing was being released. this year there is a slew of GOOD new releases all at the same time. nexon has to put itself in the competition or risk being forgotten for the holiday season. the big bang patch isn't enough to directly compete with the others head-to-head, it has to get a jump on them and get players reinvigorated to level and explore.

Did he try logging in when the 1st Round was released?

I'm pretty sure that accounts which were selected (not sure if all of them), STILL get the pop-up, even if Tespia is closed now. My friend's does, at least.

If he didn't get the pop-up for 1st Round, then I guess they've been choosing new people already, so grats to your brother. Mine is still not in.

ah, so thats the problem and yes he was selected in 1st one

It is halloween next month though, would they really add Big Bang, then halloween then resistance? Or would they try to do resistance with Halloween? Either way I foresee a major screw up somewhere.

they never do anything decent for Halloween anyway. What......crap web events and even crappier in game quests? Yeahhhhhhhh I'll take BB!

Didn't Malaysia and Balrog PQ come out last October? I think we should keep an eye on Facebook sometimes they post pictures of whats comming.

But will it be ready by October? If they do a rush job just to release it before the competition... I predict a lot more bugs than Nexon's usual crop, especially a total mishandling of World Tour areas.
One would hope they release it when they have it complete, *and* Tespia-tested for a decent length of time, and not a second before.

Will it be ready? No. Emergency patches? Most likely. Will this be tolerable? yes.

if i recall, they opened haunted mansion during October. Granted it was 500NX to enter, it remained as one of the best training spots for everyone.

i quantify that with crappy.

The first haunted house quest chain was not crappy compared to just about any event we have had since then. If even is the same as easy level gain, mesos or OP stuff we have had better ones, but not as far as quests and story goes.

rayhovite Wrote:That would be stupid. Completely utterly stupid. Maplestory's revamp would be overshadowed by WoW's revamp. Besides that, you're gonna see the new Xbox Dashboard update, LittleBigPlanet2, Gran Turismo 5, Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, Call of Duty: Black Ops, and probably more in November. Big Bang is supposed to make it easier for casuals to integrate into the Maple world, but if it releases in November, all those casuals will have their attention on new products. Don't forget FF XIV releases at the end of this month too.

Nexon isn't trying to compete with CoD using Maplestory; that's comparing apples to oranges. Every other Nexon games are market laggards: Counter Strike and Sudden Attack both lose out to XBox giants like CoD and Halo; other 3D MMORPG just don't have the market share. Maplestory is Nexon's biggest franchise and its only real market-leading product. I already mentioned Final Fantasy XIV and World of Warcraft: Cataclysm as possible threats, but only because those two have international recognition and hoopla enough to make people jump into another dimension (literally).

anything that draws a persons attention away from maplestory is a threat.

Not really. You have to remember that no EVERYBODY who gets those games aren't going to ditch MS. Hell probably a lot of them don't even play MS, what will probably happen is they will go AFK on MS while they play. Why do you guys think they'll lose so much just because a new console game came out?

You have to think about it from Nexon's perspective, not your own.

Competition can come from any source and any competition should be taken seriously as a company.

Both true. But you also gotta think how many people would be drawn to the Big Bang. What if they dropped the WHOLE Big Bang right in the middle of all these releases, not just one patch.

if i have $50 and i spend that $50 on cataclysm then i don't have any money to buy nx. it doesn't matter if they're drawn to it if they have no money. releasing big bang after the holiday rush when no one has any money would leave nexon in a big pickle.
