Okay, so because I have discconected so many bloody times I am starting to get annoyed. I heard that there is a way to run xp on your windows 7 computer. Is there a guide, or would anyone like to tell me how to do this?

Playing the game Windows 7 on the operating system Maplestory?
Sorry, but I had to laugh, this made my day.
I'm not very sure, but I know you can have both OP's on the same computer. Or, you could try running MS on compatibility mode.

Dual booting and partitioning your hard drives fixes your problem.

If I'm not mistaken, you can do this by partitioning your hard drive and then installing the other OS with an installation disc.
EDIT: Dammit. Ninja'ed by Fiel.

AhnLab Hackshield and nProtect GameGuard treat running MMOs on Compatibility Mode as an attempt to cheat. I'm not sure what hacking prevention software other servers use, but it's generally a bad idea to run on Compatibility Mode.

Compatibility mode wont help either, tried it before they switched gameguard to hackshield.
Are there any downsides to the method Fiel posted? Other than the waste of space I mean. Let's say I wanna fix this on my msi laptop with Win7. Do I just follow the steps, install my copy of XP home edition and just start it up, ready to play? Do I need to worry about anything else or would it just be working from the start?

There is one possible downside. You may have to wipe your drive clean so you can repartition it. Google is your friend.

Vista compatibility mode works with JMS. Not sure with W7, but both works fairly well compared to GMS so people play normally. They do peach everyday about it though; with they'd just partition and install XP (see above)

Thanks for the replies, but I've heard of a method where you run a virtual computer with VM Ware or something, whats with that?

Pretty much the w7 virtual xP can't run anything that need direct3D, and you need a computer with hardware virtualization to be able to run this virtual xP.
VMware can work, last time i tried it though, hackshield would d/c every 5min with the hacking attempt detection - hack speed something -, and VMware V7 is laggy as hell.
Best option is making your computer dual boot, and how Fiel said, you don't need to clean your HD, just need to make a 20gb partition, it can be done using the windows tool disc manager.
But again, if your computer is quad core, 4gb or more ram, a good vid card, don't rely on winxP, or you will lose all of ur computer performance. just use winxP for bossing purposes.

I'm sorry for being an ass but doing that just for a 2D game is just stupid.

yeah, its only worth making it if you boss a lot, i had to do it on my win vista, and now with my win7, i have dual boot too, but just for bosses, since win7 run faster than my clean winxp instalation on same computer... anyway i have 1.5TB of space, so its not problem to make a 20gb partition for it.
btw, i hope nexon really make maple win7 compatible, microsoft released the IE9 Beta, i know no one use IE anymore, but its only for win vista/7, microsoft left winxp behind, even the new live messenger isnt compatible with winxP.
Recently, I installed win7 on my netbook acer aspire with 1gb ram, intel aton 1.6ghz dual core, i got surprised, with win7, my netbook boot faster than with winxP, and running programs, opening folders is way faster than when it had winxP.

Honestly you can pick up a used desktop for under $100 that will play MS acceptably. All you need for bosses is a 1GHz processor, about 1GB of RAM (2GB is better), and a fast HDD. The GPU could be almost anything and it's not like MS is better with a bigscreen. Then you can just play MS on that with WinXP and have your fast computer for other stuff. I've run Zakum on my EeePC900 without issue (it's got XP Pro) it's not quite as smooth as my desktop but it's easily playable. Definitely worth a reboot before running though, and not starting up too many other programs.
Still crossing my fingers the Big Bang will include a W7 compatible client though. Cause I like my desktop.

i run MS in compatibility mode on Win 7. starts up fine and runs fine. It just randomly DCs every now and then AND during boss runs, some preventable by switch screeen resolutions or alt+tab.
Big Bang better get the win 7 client. Ima be a not very happy camper if that doesn't happen.

I don't get what you're all on about. I got w7 on 3 pcs and none of them have a problem with MS, nor do they DC . I have a shop open 24/3 so far and not a single DC.

What version of win7 you have? i have win7 32bit ultimate, and before the patch .88, i never dced, i could do any boss run but HT, after dual blade patch, all problems started.
iirc, nvidia users tend to d/c more, and using a really old video card drivers sometimes fix the problem.
I heard a lot of people can play maple on win7just fine. i used to, before patch .88, after patch .88, i tried everything, formated computer, downloaded the .88 installer, etc, nothing worked.

I can run MapleStory with Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit with minimal disconnections. My video card is ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470. :^|
And by minimal, I'm refering to a minimum of two disconnections per day; although I've been lucky for the past couple of days and haven't. Oh boy.
As for bossing, Balrog disconnects me if I don't change my graphics at least once, I've had no problems with Zakum, as long as I change my graphics. Scarlion and Targa are fine as well. I have yet to test out Horntail and others.

I have disconnects only if I change channels and after I've been logged in for at least 10-15 minutes in the higher traffic areas. However, sometimes I don't D/C when CCing so it might be server related issues regarding how many people are online at once.
I do have D/Cs at Zakum , Nibelung, and others even if I do Alt+Enter and change the screen. Tried this at Nibelung at least 10 times. Nothing.
I've been researching trying to control how MapleStory interacts with the OS itself. One theory I had was attempting to run MapleStory and all it's components in a SandBox set to run under the Windows XP SP3 compatibility mode. Not emulated in a VM but actually ran with full access to hardware and such. Haven't actually had any real results yet.
Compatibility Mode with GMS is a no-go for anyone trying it. Hackshield automatically resets the compatibility settings when the game launches and the detection program senses it.
However, at this time.... dual-booting with Windows XP seems to be the only real choice that seems to work best... at least until we get Big Bang but then again... that might not fix it either. They might have to rebuild the GMS game engine to work with Vista and 7. If Big Bang is simply content it won't fix anything.

If it's also happening on my W7 installation, I might have to go to the virtualization route.

Anyone actually tried using MS Virtual-PC?
