Each column is a block. The number represents how 'bright' it is. Mobs will not spawn on anything over 5.

Not sure if torches actually deter their movements. Easy enough to test though.

I've had a lot of dumb things happen to me, but as a whole my first Alpha game is going ok.

Oh, Dispite me being logged out on Minecraft.net I can still download the exe <<. Of course you need an account to play, I just thought that I could at least provide the game download for the time being until she could buy an account.

In single player survival just change the difficulty to "Peaceful" no monsters, ever.

Again, I wouldn't be able to continue playing knowing that I "cheated" in a sense. I mean, there's nothing stopping me from getting valuable resources! It's practically cheating!

Not sure if they've got this outside of the US, but you can purchase these things at a local drug store called "Moneypaks". They're basically NX cards, but for Paypal; you buy the card, scratch off the code on the back, and you've got money. I can confirm that these work because it's how I purchased the game.

wtp is this pomegranate? A room that spawns skeletons with 2 treasure chests in it. The chests both had ..... red sand? I keep dieing in there.... i guess i need armor T.T

Put one torch next to the blue box and kill the skeletons with well planed mining around the room and sword swings. The torch will stop their spawning. You can then build a machine to kill the Skeletons (drowning works well) and farm arrows.

Lucky bastard, I've only found Zombies.

I heard it was free so I downloaded it. But when I go to make a new world it doesn't let me choose the options and I don't start out in a house. O.o

Not sure what you mean about the options, but there's no "starting house" o_o

Yay for the free-to-play weekend! I've started playing it and it's pretty awesome so far. I didn't get far into it, though, the server went down. :<
