He's making an educated guess based off of an observation.
if he's right he's right.
if not then oh well.

True, I suppose. Though it really seems like metagaming to me when we're not supposed to be using IRC for mafia purposes or associating it in any way. Granted, we've pushed that a bit, but no real discussion has taken place in IRC beyond simply restating what was already in the thread.
Whatever, there's no rule against it, though it's rather poor sportsmanship, and still shaky logic - for example, right now I don't see CJ in IRC anyways - hell, I haven't seen him at all in IRC. Besides that, you'd think it would make more sense to log onto IRC under a different name, since clicking "Whois" reveals every channel a person is currently logged into. I'm sorry, your logic is way too weak for this one - you'd have to be a total dumbass (no offense if anyone has) to actually log onto a mafia channel under your southperry name, assuming the channels are even on Gamesurge.
You're also forgetting that every mafia game has brought a lot of extra traffic to IRC regardless of participants/etc.

You don't see him probably because he saw my post. If a channel's +s, you don't see the channel they're on unless you're in it. If you see it, then this casts you into suspicion too.

This is the first time he's come onto IRC (not counting the time in August he came on for about half an hour). When did the game start? Need I say more?

Last game i was mafia. BTA had set the channel up so that no one would be able to see the channel even with a /whois and made the channel password protected.

Not sure if we'd have had that power (I assume I'd use a mech for fighting?), but that's all I have to base it on.
EDIT: And Tobi, what you're talking about is +s (with +k for the pass), just like Ray said.

Ok, you're also ignoring that the mafia games spark a lot of conversation on IRC and he might've just wanted to be a part of it. Anyways, I'll wait and see what he has to say. Honestly, I'm more suspicious of you now more than anything - the argument is rather shaky and based on metagaming rather than anything that has actually happened during the game.

And I'm suspicious of you because of how quickly you jumped to ChaoticCJ's defense. That, and how quickly you shoot down accusations in general.

He didn't defend CJ so much as he was questioning you, from my perspective.

Because I'm pissed that you're (in my opinion) metagaming. You're making accusations based on things that shouldn't even be a part of the game. I utterly despise cheating, and this is very close to it (regardless of if correct). It's also a very flimsy argument, and I happen to be lurking the thread when you posted.
Also, @ Tobias, props for defending me despite me voting for you. Mad respect yo, you're committed to your ruse.

I'm making use of the weapons the rules have given me. I suggest you do the same if you have any interest in making whatever your side is the winner.

He basically already did, with his SCII knowledge.
Mind you the rules never said against abusing your mod powers.

Metagaming is metagaming. Just because it's not officially agaisnt the rules doesn't mean it's right.
Also, ^. Say Fiel was participating, there'd be nothing to stop him from reading peoples' PMs, which is not against the rules. Assuming you don't already have that capability. Just because you CAN do something doesn't mean it's in the spirit of the game.

pfft.
im defending no one, im giving my two cents. I'm suspicious of ray also, but i see his logic and how it can hold water. I'm not gonna play bias. He has a point, you have a point. Both of you, and everyone else who is a terran here will operate on their grounds of what they hold to be truth. only the mafia members know more than us, and its our job to find them by way of the inspectors and detectors, of which Meph was one, and i the other; and relying on the information we gather from the game.

I know I'm dead but I just got the chance to check the thread so I'll make this one post then I'll shut up, promise.

Yeah I asked Infection to clarify this and he said I couldn't quote the results directly, IIRC. Nothing wrong with telling people though.

You guys are wrong, I set up a mafia channel that was +s, private, everything back a game or two ago and it was very visible through a /whois, it really depends on which client you're using. Some can see secret channels, others can't. It's weird.
Anyway, I gotta say, much as I was expecting to die last night, I'm still pissed that I did... Because I cashed in another successful investigation last night. What a shame. :\ Still, I'm glad I was able to give what help I could. Good luck, Terrans!

As far as the irc thing goes, there is some suspicious elements to that, but it is not enough to convince me that he's mafia. It's not like that's the only way private communication can go on. If he happened to be a lover, then perhaps irc chats was their way to talk rather than via pms. Of course it's equally possible he's a mafia member, but for the moment, I still find MetaSeraphim to be the most suspicious given his past posts and actions.
Edit: Also with Mephisto's comment, I find myself thinking that Dusk and MetaSeraphim remain high on the suspect list. While I'm on it though, I'm still a bit suspicious of Hiepocrite and Synthesist. Their lack of presense would seem to suggest either they're neutrals trying to stay alive as long as possible, lurkers trying to keep a low profile, or they're idle. The first isn't so bad since neutrals are going to be after the mafia too, but the second is a bit worrisome and the third sucks if they're Terrans. Of course if they're mafia, then the third one is good. XP

I agree with Six. It's suspicious, but not really that big of a tell. He might have just decided to start going on irc. It's the same thing as saying a person viewing this thread at x time must be mafia.

Flimsy argument is flimsy. Granted, not overly so, but Tobias, Kurtle, and Meta are still more suspicious to me.

I think Kurtle is probably a teran at this point, but I guess we should be suspicious of anyone.

if anyone that is playing the game and is terran talks privately, god killing occurs iirc.
