The Rebirth of Maple World! (big bang)
Fiel Wrote:I don't see why people feel that their levels have devalued due to Big Bang. Anything and everything you have done up to now in your life, including time spent on Maplestory, is a sunk cost. It's not coming back. Almost no amount of foresight could have prepared you for the fact that they would eventually be reducing rates by almost 80% and redesigning the whole game. Any sunk cost is irrelevant to future decision making.

Time spent having fun is never time wasted. Did you have fun getting all of those levels? If so, then you have lost nothing. If not, then why the hell are you playing a game you don't like?

I just don't see the logic here. Please point out where I'm wrong.

I'm surprised that everyone is surprised at the announcement being so 'early'.

U.I. changes are generally known to get here quicker than actual new content right? This is also a bit of a remix of existing data as opposed to completely creating new content AND adding it in... so i assumed it wouldn't be a year long thing like some people thought it would. lol.

And I agree with Fiel's post 1000%. Do people get upset when the minimum wage increases feeling that their work beforehand was useless by comparison? I think not. The money is already in hand and if you waited, you would not have that money already.

By the same token, you got what you needed by grinding to your level now: By not needing to wait 5 years to experience the content in MS you have already. The fact that you got to Zakum before BB and use maxed out 4th job skills already is the inherent value of your experience with the game. Players have earned that early experience by grinding now and not later: and no new content is going to change that fact.

It's an entirely different game. Different monsters, different maps, different skills, different equipment (tho that came early, with potential)... It just looks a bit alike, and uses the same names. A rip-off of Maple, but "everything you know is wrong."
I don't mind things getting easier, if they do. I would welcome a new training area where it would take me less than 3000 hours (of 1x) to get to level 200.
I also don't mind lower levels getting better training mobs or gear, and being able to do in months what took me years.
What I mind is switching games.
I figure if I'm going to play a new game, might as well make it one that Nexon doesn't own. Since, for all the "revamp" and even hoped-for Win7-compatible client, they're not fixing the fundamental design flaws that make this game so prone to getting hacked/glitched/abused. They're also not taking care of the intolerable lags, lack of in-game GM presence or any kind of customer service, and their NX-greed just keeps getting worse. Why would I want to learn a new game with the same flaws? Just because Nexon gives me a free level 176 warrior (with some barely decent gear, way too much dex, and a set of skills I don't know) and tell me it's still my Hero that I know and love? Sorry, my mind doesn't work that way.

MapleStory is an MMO, and is therefore in a constant state of flux. To argue that this isn't MapleStory doesn't make any sense. Six years ago, MapleStory was four towns and a little dungeon, and skills up to level 70. The game has changed a lot since then, and it will continue to change. Nearly all of the changes to Big Bang are positive; I'm assuming the negativity is mostly coming from resistance to change.

If they don't make it fully compatible with Windows 7, we should rename this to:

MapleStory: Glitched Big Patch

Otherwise:

MapleStory: The Genesis Revelation

What does Neo City have to do with anything? Neo City is in KMS.

Most of the naysayers of this patch are just people resistant to change, part of the human condition, so I don't really blame them. On the other hand, I completely agree with Fiel on that one post, the argument that "all my past work means nothing" represents the mentality some of the playerbase has about the game: No longer about the fun, but to surpass the e-size of everyone in sight.

I, for one, welcome the change since, inevitable bugs notwithstanding, this just breaths new life into MS.

Last, as for names, last night while bored I submitted a few names, the ones I remember are:

Dawn of the Black Hearts
Dawn of the Black Mage
Dawn of the exodus.

The big bang isn't in october. It's the 2nd week of November.

I shat in my pants.

Continuing on the levels thing, I firmly believe that Maplestory follows Moore's Law. Every 18 months, Maplestory becomes twice as easy to level whether due to levels, potential system, scrolls, equipment, or just outright decreasing exp rates.

Proof?

No seriously, how would you think it's that date?

But thats what keeps people interested in the game. Big Bang in reality just opens the game up to so so so much more content to flood in. IF notice I said IF, the level cap is indeed increased then even more opportunity will open up. They have the Black Mage "revived". He's not FULL revived yet which means Maple isn't done. Since Maple is such a large massive game across the world even when the Black Mage is released I can always see a new story line opening up. With that said I want to know one thing, what in hell happened to Hob King PQ and Dual Race.

I'm sure it's faster than that. Global has been out for less than 4 x 18 months and I'm pretty sure it's a hell of a lot easier than 16x the speed of when GMS first came out. My first 4th job, which I started back in mid-2007, took over a year, and my most recent one, which I started in July, took 3 weeks. No huge change in trainiing habits.

Somewhat off-topic, but did KMS ever bring back the Monster Book or is that still on hold?

Well I have a theory. This big bang that they want us to rename is ONLY what was the first patch in KMS and it will come in October. So that's EXP curve, UI change, Skill changes, Monsters, and anything else that was in that patch. Now you might ask "Wait what about resistance?" well if you look at when we normally get classes its in late November/Early December and June/July. We got pirates in late November(or was it early December I cant remember), then we got CK in July, then Aran in December, then theirs Evan which was in March(lol random), then we got DB in July. So following that pattern it seems we would get resistance in December. This leaves November, and my guess is that nexon is gonna release big bang first and then hobPQ/Dual Race so that they don't have to remake them for Big bang. They don't have to do all of big bang at once and since mechanic is finished theirs no reason for it not to be with the other two resistance jobs... Now my fingers hurt...

Yup, :S

Maple Story Revolution.

This also means we aren't getting it till October but confirmation is enough, I'll be busy with Pokemon Black/Applying for College anyway.

Also I don't fucking care about the name.

inb4 you can make an ultimate adventurer without having a 120 KoC using NX.

Probably will happen -_-

I remember seeing Kaede Castle and being excited that it would come. But nothing.

I totally read that as "It's the 2nd of November", as that's the tentative release date for Cataclysm, and was ready to say "icwutudidthar"...but I R disappoint D:
