Maple FPS - kMS vs gMS (OMFG)
#41
Thanks for that great visual.

Unfortunately, you have no idea how either version works behind the scenes, or apparently computers in general.

As the main national server, KMS has to keep up with the technology as well. If they're slow, then other servers are going to be slower since they make the game at it's base.

It wouldn't be great for them to have slow computers when building the game, that'd be Extra retarded since other areas like GMS will be like "omg, nexon why r ur suvurz crashing??!?! WE HATEZ YOU!"

That doesn't really address anything.

Yes it does... It's called common sense.

Allow me to clarify what I meant when I said it appears you have no idea what you're talking about:

Random_Overlord Wrote:Kms runs on W7..... With a hundred 4gb ram drives in each server CPU. They're operated by loads of College grads and smarty-pantses, then they use their jetpacks to fly to the lunch room where they serve pizza bubble & tea.

GMS runs on Window 08.... With a 512 RAM drive attached to every server. It's operated by a chimp with a suit on backwards, and Kim sometimes goes into the room to deliver some Tim Hortons doenuts.

As a bonus pun, I bet the GMS staff waits at the harbor/Airport to wait for this GIANT jet/boat to deliver this Big-assed box, and when they open it they see a 8gb kingston flash drive with the latest undeveloped kmst patch. Then they're like "copypaste, copypaste, copypaste, copypaste, copypastecopypastecopypastecopypastecopypaste" And run around in circles bonking their heads together.

You have no clue how servers work apparently, how a game is made, or even electronically sending files. Or you're just really unfunny. Or both.

Ah, glad to see you matched being unfunny with your Nexon hate and irrelevance to the thread topic.

Fiel Wrote:Even in Python, I can read and decompress all files in about 10 minutes (that's every graphic in the game). The language they're using, C++, is several orders of magnitude (15 - 20x) faster than python.

In what ways is it faster, though?

Python is slower than C++ because of the overhead of having an interpreter, which is an extra layer of abstraction from the code to the machine. Python code is interpreted into Python instructions, which have to be executed by the interpreter which itself is a set of native instructions. Rather than just C++ code which is compiled into native instructions that can be directly executed.

But given that decompressing files is mainly a disk operation (i.e. slow), the overhead of calling the instructions from Python should be less compared to the cost of the actual instructions themselves. Whereas if you were doing something like calculating prime numbers, Python would be much slower because the individual arithmetic operations involved are small.

Exactly, that's why it is slower: Decompression really isn't mainly a disk operation.

Fiel Wrote:I really try to never do this, but RADRaze - you have no idea what you're talking about. The WZ files are the most efficient part of the game. Ever. Whoever designed these knew what they were doing.

Nexon also organize their maps/ items skills well in such a way that it can be identified/ gotten via mathematical orders such as Equip = 1, Use = 2, Setup = 3 ETC = 4, the different stages of Nett pyramid etc. Big Grin

Do u think the FPS / w7/vista problems would be fixed in the BB patch ?

It has already been established that the Big Bang does not address Vista/7 issues assuming NexonNA doesn't do anything funky. The only thing that Big Bang improves is resource management, which just makes the game run smoother.

Yeah! It's called "switch to a pc that uses Windows XP"

CAuse nexon's solutions only make matters worse. Windows xp compatibility mode will fix everything my ass.
