-Hime- Wrote:Dear Maplers,
To help you distinguish between real GMs and GM impersonators, we have put together some tips for you.
1. GMs appear in game with a floating rotating GM sign with wings.
2. GMs will never contact you through Whispers.
3. GMs will never threaten to ban you if you do not give up items, mesos or your account information.
4. GMs will never ask for your PIC or password.
5. GMs do not talk or contact players with screen effects that look like the weather system.
6. Under specific and rare circumstances, GMs may contact you in game through Chat. Be sure the GM is wearing the obvious GM gear (the hat and/or briefcase with W is a clear indication).
If you meet somebody that claims they are a GM, go through the tips above. If they do not match with any one of the tips, they are an impersonator. Do not comply with the impersonators request and report them immediately.
Be safe and happy Mapling.
Finally nexon posted something about this.

One of my friends whispered me about this. These guys suck.
Luckily he came and asked me about it instead of listening to that "GM Notice" above his head, otherwise weird stuff could have happened. :x

You know, if GMs were on more, no one would fall for these impersonations. I bet there are some players who haven't ever seen a GM. Hell, I haven't seen a GM in years. You know something's wrong when there are less GM sightings than Bigfoot sightings.

Well, the 10 year-olds in this game are so gullible, so I'm really not surprised. Why anyone would believe that a GM would want you to "drop" your PAC or whatever is beyond me. It's just common sense; apparently something our generation lacks.

GMs shouldn't even be seen outside events to avoid confusion. Official GM sighting outside events have been nonexistent in JMS since early 2008. Usually when they're out in full equipment, something bad is going on...

Really? They warn about some kids using a weather map hack but still nothing about the obvious other exploits ruining the game? At least put a notice up about that so we don't all think you don't actually log into the game.

I'm sure they use ordinary characters or be invisible instead of being swarmed by n00bs going "OMGGMGMSGMOMG"

They're usually "aware" of a problem for years until they find a way to fix it. Case in point support replies and official FAQs that says "We know there is an issue but we are working on it" It's a lot harder to fix a problem than to find a problem. A lot harder.

The enhance exploit items can be removed easily. If they remove those items from game the hackers wouldnt have a reason to do it anymore. They already shut down happyville but the hackers found a new area to hack.
The same way they removed a good majority of glitched items from the duey glitch, they can remove all items that have 5 stars or more.

they do have ordinary characters, but of course they dont tell you theyre GMs. and typically, they arent into playing the game enough to have high enough characters to be relevant.

I once whispered a GM to wish her good morning. She wished me good morning in turn.
Quote:2. GMs will never contact you through Whispers.
is invalid.
...okay that doesn't count. >.>
Quote:5. GMs do not talk or contact players with screen effects that look like the weather system.
They need to be more specific with this. GMs may use weather effects to talk to players for events.
The advice that should be given is "when in doubt, contact the administration."
...I guess.
