I really don't want to get in trouble for this, so I'm going to make this brief:

Rick, there's nothing to feel guilty about. Harrison crossed a line and deserved to be infracted. If he disagrees due to technicalities, that's his problem.

You are not only his friend, but also a member of SP's moderation team. As a member of that team, you must sometimes make decisions that will penalize your friends in some way. If they're not fine with that, they're the ones at fault.

My problem with Rick's infraction is that it overrides two clear-cut rules and his only real justification for it is "discretion",
which isn't really a rule.

In any case, the instructions I left on Rick's user messages were precise.

a) Rick is not the only moderator. Most moderation efforts are done by consensus, particularly in the cases of discretion which require multiple approvals, and any moderation you disagree with should've been brought to Mira, not your personal friend on the mod team. He is not your liason to us and expecting him to be so is putting an undue burden on an alleged friend.
b) Rick has no ability to coerce me towards favors for you, and we do not, nor ever will, delete users because they don't want to be here any more. If you don't have the will power to not login that's your choice. Change your password to something you don't know and lock yourself out, we're not your babysitter. Removal is a punishment, not a reward, and you don't get to pick and choose the terms of it.

Hi. I'm going to ask a series of rhetorical questions that I don't want to be answered. I'm just asking them to make you look like an incompetent moderator. Even though I'm going to state that it's not your business to make this public, I'm going to interfere and smear my douche-baggery all over this thread to let everyone know how awesome I am for lecturing you after you have stepped down from your moderation post. See when I'm a douche-bag, it's faux-justified because I'm too busy pointing out your mistakes for people to realize my own short-comings in how I decided to present this post. Maybe if I had thought things through more carefully, I wouldn't have barged into this thread like the Kool Aid Man and screamed, "Oh Yeah" upon entering this thread.

If I realized what an attention whoring hypocrite I really am inside, I would probably have not tried to play the part of both saint and sinner in the same post. Me neither. But there isn't a point in crashing a goodbye thread either. Two wrongs don't make it right. And Rick was okay-enough that I can respect that. I also don't see eye-to-eye with his logic. But when have I ever seen eye-to-eye with anyone when it comes to everything? In his mind he chose his friendship over his moderation post which is what I believe is the best course of action that he could take. Rick values Harrison above the faux-level of power that this site gave him which means that their friendship means a lot more than what most online friendships are usually on the internet. If we're talking about irrelevant threads, there is that emo one in the Rubik's Cube that I don't want to even touch. This thread is at least semi-appropriate given the recent threads that have been added to the forum board.

I don't see how not doing anything about goodbye threads as a good thing either. The rules are never written in a way that all users can understand it in the same way or aspect, people understand the rules differently because of the way it's worded. Last I checked, goodbye threads weren't exactly 'approved'. Eos said stepping-down threads are okay, correct? Well, this is more like both in one thread. So this makes it a huge exception?
