Bartle Gamer Psychology test
#1
This seems like the kind of thing i'd have posted before so maybe I have, no idea. If it has been, it didn't show up in the search. I think it would be interesting to apply to Maplestory to see how the player base compares with the type of content nexon tends to deliver. At first i was thinking SP might be a bit biased as a location to collect data, but then i realized how much the information extracted influences the markets and other parts of the game that it's probably going to be a pretty even mix.

Anyway, found this test:
http://www.gamerdna.com/quizzes/bartle-t...psychology

Decided to take it because I had read about this theory before and wanted to see the results.

It basically splits players up into 4 categories:
1. Explorers - People who are interested in learning new things and seeing new places. This includes literal exploring (the type of person who would make a map of the Phantom Forest) and also trying out new strategies and ideas (The type of person who would, for example, discover that the 120+ Neo City map is good training for arans.)
2. Achievers - Interested in collecting new items and earning rewards for their work. Anyone who has a vast collection of medals and untradeables. People who went out of their way for Lotus chairs and the like. Also includes leveling up and basically any other way you can of having your effort acknowledged by the game in a way that other people can see.
3. Socializers - I'm sure i don't need to explain this one. Two words: Henesys Hoes.
4. Killers - Merchants, KSers, the kind of people who make a DK just so they can rush bigfoot into hapless noobs. They're also sometimes a more general type of competition, but there's not a lot of ways to do that in Maple. The only thing I can think of is if you really love Monster Carnival.

The test will give you 200% which is distributed among the four categories, no one can be more than 100%. This gives you a primary and secondary. The two tend to combine in interesting ways. Here are my results:
http://www.gamerdna.com/quizzes/bartle-t...d=31502927
87% Explorer, 53% Achiever, 40% killer, 20% Social. No surprise to me or anyone I'm sure; all you have to do is look around for evidence of that lol. I'm going to put a poll up with the 4 primaries but I'd appreciate replies stating your percentages and secondaries as well. If you want to read more about the categories, give old Wiki a look: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bartle_Test

Ahhh...that one. I took it before, but I can't remember my score. =.=

I'll try to look for it, hold on.

EDIT: Here it is.

Explorer Socializer
Explorer Socializers are the glue of the online world. Not only do they like to delve in to find all the cool stuff, but they also enjoy sharing that knowledge with others. Explorer socializers power the wikis, maps, forums and theory craft sites of the gamer world.

Explorer - 67%
Socializer - 67%
Achiever - 40%
Killer - 27%

Uh, I think I may have lost my actual result after clicking somewhere. The one I posted could not be mine O.o

Still ESAK anyway, with Killer pretty low down.

EDIT: The picture I put there is the right one now.

Yeah, not too surprising, I never really liked PvP in games.

Yeah, it's 201% for some reason.

Obviously, one of the values was rounded up and another rounded down...

Holypie's is 199%.

87% explorer, 60% achiever, 53% socializer, 0% killer

Actually I'm not that much of an explorer, but they didn't have an option of "I'll look up the info on the new area"...

93% explorer
47% socializer
33% achiever
27% killer

expected achiever to be higher but i didn't answer any of those questions about wanting to be the best, which was really the only option for some reason.

This test is flawed. When they compare an item to experience points are we talking about a WZ hat to 1m EXP? It's like being told to choose between apples and oranges without being told how many of each there are. Plus some of the elements in the quiz don't even exist in certain games like Maplestory (PK, taverns, etc.). It's so vague most people will pick the same choice for some of the questions (if they choose logically) so I'm assuming almost everyone in Southperry will be an explorer.

Suffice it to say I got -100% in Social ._. (<-sad me

I would have liked to see "Scholar" instead. But I maxed out on explorer - sure that's no surprise to anyone.

Of course! You definitely "leave no stone unturned"! :p

Perhaps I should retake the test. My results may be different now. They probably won't; my habits online haven't really changed at all from 2 years ago...

I had no idea what to expect going in, other than knowing socializer was going to be one of the lower two. I'm not anti-social in games, just I'd rather have a smaller group of 5-10 friends than know half the server. Also I have only played two mmorpgs, maple and wow, and while answering the questions, depending on what game I was thinking of at the time, kinda picked my answer. In maple I'm much more relaxed, and more content with my average equipment and level. However in WoW, were the amount of NX I had access to didn't determine my success, I was a lot more into trying to collect all the rare mounts, getting the best equipment, succeeding in pvp, etc.

If questions were answered simply thinking about WoW, I think I would have been Achiever first, then possibly Killer.

If questions were answered only about Maple, I think I would have been Explorer and then Socializer.

You're taking it too literally. There aren't a whole lot of MMOs where you can actually rent land and set up a tavern then run a business out of it. When it's comparing an item to EXP, pretend they're equivalent. Would you rather get an item you could only get once, something that you could wear to show you've completed the task, or experience, which helps you level up but no one is going to be able to tell specifically what you've done to get it. When it's talking about running a business, think about those people who farm Lucky Charms or Pieces of Time not for themselves, but to sell in their shop.

and yes, i expect Southperry, just by virtue of it being based on collecting data, to lead us to being slightly biased toward Explorer. Maple in general, however, I would predict to be largely made up of Achiever (due to the emphasis on the grind) and Socializer (henehoes).
