Big Bang Skill Reset
#1
I actually posted this same thing on the GMS forums, but I didn't get any answers, or replies. I figured since this community has some KMS players, I could get an answer Smile.

Big Bang is supposed to give everyone a complete skill reset due to a huge number of changes in every classes skill statistics. I have a question regarding how the formula for the skill reset is written - for anyone who is a professional programmer, or just knows about these things.

What is the skill reset formula? Off the top of my head, I can only come up with two potential ways to which it could be written.

1) All skills are reset. Skill points are redistributed based on the character's level, class rank, and cash mastery books. The formula would be such:

Skill Points Redistributed = (Character Level - 10) * 3 + #CashMasteryBooks + ClassRank

2) All skills are reset. Skill points are redistributed based on the number of skill points placed into skills by the character.

Example: If the character has 7 points placed into "Double Stab", the character will be given 7 skill points back. If the character has 8 points placed into "Double Stab" and 3 points placed into "Lucky 7", the player will be given 11 skill points back.

The reason I'm curious to this, is because there are quite a number of players who have a screwed up amount of skill points. Evans and Dual Blades to be specific. Some Evans have too many skill points, some are missing a few. Some Dual Blades are missing skill points, while others are not. If the skill reset given in Big Bang uses the formula given in option 1 above, then everyone's skill points could potentially be fixed. If it's option 2, then I get annoyed if there's no fix - as I'm one of the users with a screwed up Dual Blade, with too little money and time to main a new one. Thanks Tongue.

I don't know how it factors in mastery books, but it's a full reset regardless of where you might have put points into. The SPs are listed in the job tab as the max amount of SP you have to spend on that one job. Even if you put 3rd job SP into 1st job (like i did), you'll get the 3rd job SP back to put into 3rd job skills.

Thanks for the quick reply. Tongue
And, Ah. What about if you're missing a skill point or two? Say you're level 120, 4th job but only have 333 skill points pre-big bang. (You're supposed to have 334). Would you receive that missing skill point with the skill reset given in big bang?

Say, you have an Evan who has 1 extra skill point - a common bug right now in GMS, would he retain that extra skill point after the reset?

The scrolls are probably just coded in a way that acts off the amount of SP you have upon using it. So yes.

Yes to which question? Tongue
The character who is missing a skill point and receives his/her missing point, or the Evan who gets to keep his extra point?

And in the case of it being the Evan.... *Time to get annoyed and roll another DB*

No characters are ever "missing" skill points. To nexon if you didn't buy the skill books, you technically have the right amount of SP. Besides, evan wasn't supposed to have skill books, so if anything i shouldn't even be answering that question because i don't know the answer. If anything goes wrong it will be Nexon's fault.

Like i said though, the scrolls likely work of the SP you already have. The character with "less" SP would still have "less", and the character with "more" would still have "more".

Alright, thanks for the answer Takebacker.

And.. "To nexon if you didn't buy the skill books" <- I did buy the skill books for my DB, he just didn't receive a skill point on one of the skills like he was supposed to.

Ongoing problem nexon has been putting off.

Yup. Already had plenty of friends with the exact same issue. All of us have sent in tickets regarding the issue, but my "gaming OCD" is starting to drive me insane from that one point. Tongue
Especially since I think I know why some people haven't been receiving their points.

Sylv, related but not the same question: When you have the SP reset amongst the jobs, can you then go back to previous jobs and use the SP still? Like it'll show up as 61 SP for 1st Job, 121 for 2nd Job, etc., in their respective tabs, but can you then keep adding points to a certain job skill after the points in that tab reach 0?

Ex.: I've used all my 3rd Job LOLFP points on skills I want, and have no Seal, opting to max Partial Resistance instead. Can I click to add points to Seal and have it drain from another tab (ie. all tabs are part of a collective pool, just separated into "use first" sections), or does the arrow not even light up to add SP?

As I'm aware, it comes out as a total of all the accumulated points from every job.

Nope. What you see in each tab is all you have to spend.

@ above: That's what it was when it first came out. The patch after that separated it.
