The Original Green
#1
I know all of you folks may be getting excited or worried about the new 5th Generation Pokémon games, and I myself am pretty pumped. Should be out by my birthday too, which is pretty great. But while hype goes around and people are playing through Kanto and such in HG/SS, I'm playing through Kanto too. ...On Green.

I've played RBY, I've played their remakes, I've played them all. For the most part. But I've always wanted the original Green, the Japan-only game, and some people would find that shocking. I, for one, like almost all of the Green sprites, though I think we can all admit Dragonite's a bit funky. I even like the Mew sprite better than it, and that might be saying something.

My copy of Green finally arrived in the mail today, and it's been really neat playing this so far. I'm against emulators and such so I didn't plan on messing with those; delving into ROM stuff a few years back messed up my homepage and when I was 11, I didn't know what viruses really were, and how to protect them. I also had Norton as a youngin', and we all know how great Norton is! Rolleyes But anyway, most footage of Green on YouTube would be of ROMs, and they're all poorly-translated. Feel free to look it up. That's just not how I want to go.

Sure, I've done RBY before yet the original sprites and the fact it's Japanese, where I already had to figure out what Squirtle learns at Level 8, makes it feel more new. More interesting. And this could go for more money some day; I paid 27 dollars without accounting for shipping, which got refunded due to a problem anyway. Most copies on Amazon, in which there were only 2 others when I bought mine, went for at least 40 bucks.

So, the point of my thread. Enjoying Green so far, though I'm just training my Squirtle with a randomly-made nickname I don't know how to translate on Route 1, and can't wait to get farther in the game. So let me ask you guys: have any of you played the original Green? Ever wanted to? Maybe you've got some negative opinions on the Green sprites, and I'm sure you do.

That's it for now. Biggrin

What do you know, I have Green too!

It kinda broke by now, though. I felt so cool in Elementary School when I had the Green version.

Wait till you get to Mewtwo. You'll need a change of pants.
It looks a lot better than that hulking monstrosity in R/B and much better than the pelvic thrusting Yellow ver.

Green is just... lol. I've played it though. There are a couple pretty good fan translations out there.

Some of the sprites are pretty lol.

I looked at Wigglytuff's eyes and then my mind started to burn. Magikarp looks beast, though.

... I might just play this now. This is the only Pokemon of the originals that I've never played.

Some of those sprites are hilarious! Venusaur can't bear the weight of it's flower and Charizard is... oddly cute.

Too bad my first & second gen cartridges can't save anymore.

*Psychics were really scary in R/B. Especially Alakazam.

I rather liked Blastoise, Eevee/Eeveelutions, Magikarp, Mewtwo, and a few others.

Nidorino looks good actually.

Clefable, Voltorb, Electrode, Kingler, Staryu, Electabuzz, Magikarp, and Mewtwo actually look better than their R/B counterparts.

I couldn't agree with you more. I also like the Cloyster, Exeggcute, and Koffing sprite better than their Blue (and international R/B) version counterparts.
