Long story short, I skipped maxing Slash Storm and advanced to 3rd job, now I plan to hunt for the mastery book and max Slash Storm (with a view to get Bloody Storm, of course) with the SPs that are supposed to be used on Tornado and skip it all together.
Question: Is it possible/viable?

Once you have Flying Assaulter, Tornado Spin is better than Bloody Storm.
That said, nothing beats having both (they have their uses).
Depending on where you live, you could do surveys. I did about 20k nx worth of surveys this week.

I dont have any tornado and I've been going pretty well.
Though I may try to get the book before 120, if not, oh well.

At first I didn't think Tornado spin was going to be any good, but now I regret not maxing it before 100. It's definitely more helpful in training than that Owl skill or Adv. DS. I highly recommend getting it unless you just plan to level through bossing the whole time you play.
Seriously at Gallopera's, Flying Assaulter->Tornado Spin->Upper Stab->Bloody Storm is such a great combo, you almost 1hit kill the whole mob. It's so fluid you don't get hit during the whole combo, but it's a different story afterwards.
