Potentialing a wedding ring

Before I possibly destroy my wedding ring, is it possible to divorce and remarry if one or both rings have been destroyed?

I assume it's similar to this glitch a friend of mine has after my Bandit had been deleted, which she was married to.

She tries to make a new ring, "You're already married!"
She tries to divorce, "You're not married yet!"
