CNN is citing a report in the Beijing News today that a 30-year-old man in Guangzhou, China, died on Saturday following a three-day gaming marathon. Though no single game was fingered as an accessory after the fact, the man reportedly fainted in the midst of his virtual binge at the Internet cafe and was pronounced dead after paramedics were unable to revive him. Aside from the victim's age, no other vital statistics were revealed, though the report did note that around 100 other cafe patrons vacated the premises "in fear after witnessing the man's death."

Gaming cafes have claimed the lives of several other individuals in the past. In 2005, a 28-year-old South Korean man died after a 50-hour gaming session. In 2002, a 24-year-old South Korean man died after 86 uninterrupted hours of gameplay. That same month, a 27-year-old Taiwanese man lasted 32 hours before succumbing to death by exhaustion.

This happens regularly. Dumb people, dumb choices. He probably did something to his body like not eat or drink (or drink something to keep him awake, and too much of it) besides not sleep and game.

Although, on a side note, it -is- possible to stay up for more than 50 hours (I've stayed up for 3 days straight in the past, was excited for something that would happen the next day, then just didn't feel like sleeping the next two days) if you still eat, drink, do whatever your routine schedule is. You'll just be tired as pineapple. I collapsed onto the bed at the end of those three days.

I don't know, I think I'd rather die while saving seventeen orphans, twelve puppies, thirty-one kittens, and five elderly, mentally-ill cancer patients from a burning orphanage-animal-shelter-retirement-mental-hospital. You know, something dramatic and worthwhile.

Dying because you refused to eat, drink, or take a crap while playing video games is just stupid beyond all comprehension. Could you imagine what it would be like to have your little brother die because he refused to stop playing video games?

I dislike when people do that. :/ That happens to me a lot, people get the wrong meaning.

Anyways, I'm seem to be always hearing about this kind of stuff. It's just sad, tbh... For some reason, I'm expecting a lawsuit towards internet cafes soon. Just like how McDonald's works.

It's not that they have "no life", its just that the life they chose isn't socially acceptable to everyone else, and thus the mocking and such.
