If it's not that, then the port is broken somehow.

I plug the thing in to my laptop, and nothing happens. It has been doing this for ages, but generally wriggling the chord around a bit will make it find the right spot where it'll work. However that didn't work this time. It's old and the spot around where it connects to the head is worn. Chances are the wires inside are damaged. I'm over this garbage, I just bought a new charger and am seeing if I can pick it up tomorrow. Just sucks how I have to spend about $40 on a new charger a few weeks before I replace the whole laptop. But hey, this is the stuff that happens to me.

I have a similar problem. I've re-bought my battery and charger twice now. I'm just over Dell and their pomegranate computers.

Ive advised everyone ive ever talked "Computers" to, to not buy Dell computers PERIOD! >< IMHO their computers are utter trash.

In a response to the laptop charging issue, i dont know if your port on your laptop is anything like mine (Sony....its okay) But i have 2 prongs in the port that connect to a single prong in the charger. Occasionally I will have to adjust the 2 prongs using...a knife or whathaveyou.

Other than that, Laptops are finicky and are difficult to work on.

^^^ I can attest to that. It seems like 80% of the computer work on in our store are Dells.

As far as the charging is concerned, I'm really hoping its just the adapter. The internal components can be a real pain in the ass to work with.

Does that prove Dell's are somehow buggier, or simply that there are more of them than other alternatives, or that people that buy pre-built are more likely than people who self assemble to bring them to a shop?

It's silly to blame a brand unless you have specific proof that the brand itself has issues across a statistically significant portion of it's own population.

I wasn't shooting the messenger, I was shooting the messenger's observation's logical fallacy.

This happened to our laptop a while ago, and when we took it to Best Buy, they were like, "Oh, see how the chord wiggles when it's plugged in? That means we need to fix it." And they said it was gonna take 4 weeks, because they had to ship it and everything. Then we took it to this other local place, and they said It would take 5 days for them to do it there. Then when we got it back, the thing still wiggled, and it still wouldn't charge. We took it back, and they gave us a new charger, and then it worked. We got the charger for free though......
