E3 2010 discussion
#1
so e3 preview junk is about to start airing on g4 at 3:00 est, and youtube is already streaming stuff. i don't know what today will actually feature but this topic can serve as a means for discussion on all things e3 2010.

what are you guys looking forward to or hoping for?

personally, i'm hoping to see some nice ffxiv coverage. what i've seen so far hasn't been extraordinarily impressive.

Preview junk? Its already an hour and half into the microsoft conference.

And, unsurprisngly, everything after the first few games has been a ton of wii game rip offs, that microsoft fans have been laughing at wii owners for. I sure hope they're going to enjoy kinect sports and kinect fit, or whatever ubisoft is calling it.

MGS looks good as always, and Call of duty [but I don't like COD really], and microsoft has some DLC exclusivity deal (probably timed exclusives) was alright,

And now we got just dance.

I have no idea why microsoft isn't even trying to define itself as slightly different to all teh parts of wii that are least likely to appeal to anyone with an xbox.

Sorry guys, but E3 this year is Nintendo's show. Being a Microsoft fanboy myself the only thing I'm actually interested in is Project Natal (Or as they've recently named it, "Kinect"), and that's pretty much it. And of course all Sony has to show this year is their Wiimote ripoff.

But Nintendo?
NEW METROID
NEW ZELDA
NEW HANDEHLD CONSOLE WITH 3D CAPABILITIES WITHOUT THE USE OF SPECIAL GLASSES
NEW REGGIE FILMES AIME HYPE SPEECH

Also, for those who don't know (Like Sarah), it goes like this:

Monday: Microsoft, EA, and Ubisoft press conferences
Tuesday: Nintendo and Sony press conferences
Wednesday: Konami press conference

Website lies, microsofts keynote press conference is about to come to an end, now, while the show floor is only open from tommorow, its started today.

Edit: The new 360 slim model w/ built in wifi and 250gig hard drive. And a free one to everyone at the conference, lucky journalists. Then again, maybe thats the reward for sitting through what was essentially nintendos 2006/8 conference IN HD.

And no natal pricing still...

Is natal looking promising at least?

Honestly, not really, they've had one "tech demo" earlier that turned out to be completely faked and choreographed, and I think the dancing game they had today which was the only one that looked anything like promising was faked too.

The rest was stuff that the wii has been doing since 2006, so nothing intresting there at all.

Well s'hit. I wasn't expecting anything to begin with, so i'm glad i was right. Lol.

Here's hoping for new zelda to be kick ass as usual.

I had higher hopes for natal before they used it to control an exact knock off of the wii channel menu and a bunch of wii games that I can't see being in any way better because of not needing a controller, and in most cases, I'm thinking they're going to be worse.

Not to mention they still won't tell us its price, which can't be good.

I don't see any way that nintendo could make it a worse presentation than that when they have a new handheld to show off, as well as metroid and zelda wii. And sony?If they did get kevin butler in, then microsoft has stolen last place in the conference race this year.

From my experience as a server filler for E3 presentations a few years running, all demos are supposed to be choreographed. You take an isolated "complete" section of the game which may or may not still have bugs in it to display that is ususally cut out from the main game in about two weeks time, so it's generally better to stay choreographed.

Granted, I can cite two examples at my work that didn't quite work out that way. 1. (guy sitting two seats down from me) Inviting E3 member into a room then stacking stuff in a manner to climb out of the room's boundries (he apparently didn't get the memo that we were doing conventional playstyles then rahter than testing). and 2. (which I participated in Rolleyes ) Employer's told us to go easy on any E3 member that wandered into our territory and just play the game normally otherwise making lots of backround noise. It was fine for two days, but on the third day a group of E3ers drive into our territory in an APC; everyone backs off at first, then for some reason one by one people start crowding it like ants and knifing it...

Anywho, that was off topic. I can't say I'm looking forward to much anymore so I haven't paid attention to the news on this, to the point where this thread reminded me of it and got me pissed at my employers for lying to me. You'd think I was breaking their NDA or something.

Looking forward to tomorrow for Nintendo and Sony (since I have a PS3 now and should therefore care a little), but...

Tomorrow happens to be my last day of school, so I have to record them to our DVR, ignore the internet all day (and I have a class where we can do whatever we want, with internet access), and then rush home and watch them, pretending they're live.

If only they were on the 16th, when I only have to go in for finals... :<

I'm looking forward to:
Portal 2
Seeing what XIV is all hyped up to be
Anything new with Valve (HL3, etc)
Seeing of Nintendo can redeem themselves
That new thing sony is releasing like the wii-mote that puts the real thing to shame
Etc

I wanna see what DICE has to say about Battlefield. I also wanna know more about Crysis 2, Black Ops, Fable 3, and the 3D DS thing.

It probably isn't true; it's a stunt and it isn't unlike valve to pull such a stunt. The fact that it was done in GLaDOS speech patterns further confirms this.

that new need for speed looks pretty good. my dad loved the series back in its prime but it's kind of turned to pomegranate in the last few installments. this one seemed to go back to n4s roots.
