Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann movies
#1
I just finished the series, and at first, I thought it was just silly and I was sure I wouldn't like it. After the defeat of the Helix King, things got really serious and I noticed how certain recurring lines started popping up. I knew that the "Don't believe in yourself. Believe in me. Believe in me who believes in you!" line had some sort of significance, and that the "Your drill will pierce the heavens" had some sort of significance too, but I didn't realized they'd carry it throughout the entire series. It wasn't overdone at all, it really fit in with every single battle.

FUUUUUUUUUUUUU----

Final episode was insane, I was speechless. I'm super late to the party though, almost all of my friends irl have already finished and seen this anime. Feelin' supah bad right now. Out of curiosity to those that have seen the movies, was it worth watching? What did they change? Is it a sequel to the story, or is a remake (similar to the Clannad movie that basically shortened everything in the anime series)? Thanks!

Retelling of the original story with an alternate ending and added scenes. You should watch them, gives a nice spin on the story, and the final battle was extended pretty nicely in the second movie.

I just finished the series last week for the first time, and I was really amazed. Need to find me these movies!

Clannad movie actually came out before the anime, though it was less than a year before the anime started after that, if I remember correctly.

By the way, you can order the movies on Bandai's store right now. Childhood's End (Gurren-hen) comes out July 1st and The Lights In The Sky Are Stars (Lagann-hen) comes out July 31st. I've got the LE versions of both pre-ordered... cuts into my budget quite a bit, but it's worth it.

Shakugan no Shana Movie was also retelling + alternate ending except it was bad. Like Clannad the movie, it suffered from 25 episodes being squeeze into 90 minutes which basically rushed the story telling and omitted all the character development. Except Clannad the movie had half of the After Story in it as well and ended with Emokazaki realizing he should be a father so that many events in that little time made it crash and burn.

I was reading a lot of stuff on other forums, and everybody said that the movies, although a shortened version, was great! I'll be watching both! Thanks for the opinions too, guys. That sh`it helps a lot.

I like the first half of the show more than Gurren-hen, and I like Lagann-hen more than the second half of the show. Either way, the two movies back-to-back is probably the GARest way to spend 4 hours known to man. I just watched them last week with someone who's never seen the show, and he enjoyed them. I just had to clear up a few very fast, content stuffed montages.

I seem to be the only person who thought the story felt kinda strange after the uber boat thing died and the older brother... I really didn't like how it developed from there onwards and the final battle felt kinda forced for me.

Dunno, maybe I should give it a second watch, it's been some time that I've watched it and now I have a more thorough anime culture.
