Apparently, I am OCD.

I know most people can play a game without looking at a guide, but I usually try to like, make very little mistakes and get perfect weapons and stuff. ;____;

I dunno. I like games that make me think. I tend to play puzzle games and RTSes, and some fighting games. I only play RPGs for puzzle elements and interesting combat systems (Final Fantasy has none of this, so I've never liked the series). Collecting everything has never been very appealing to me. My thinking is: I beat the final boss. Why do I need "Excalibur" or some pomegranate? I tried to finish my Collector's book or whatever it's called in Tales of Symphonia, but I got bored as hell after the third playthrough.

I do play post-game Pokemon with a guide so I can figure out how to get certain moves and stuff. I don't care about catching them all, though. I still haven't caught Mewtwo, Moltres, and Lugia in HG.

Talking about interesting combat systems, have you played Valkyrie Profile? [/color]

I have a spreadsheet tracking my progress in Project Diva... Though that's incredibly simple compared to Sarah's spreadsheets.

I don't think I've played many games requiring that much information, though.

Valkyrie profile combat system isn't all that interesting imo. It's just mashing buttons =|. Grinding in that game is the most boring crap ever. Only boss battles are more fun. And even then, I went through every boss in the game simply mashing except for one of the final ones. Though there is quite a bit of customization in characters (some characters are just bad while some are obviously the better ones), not so much as skills unfortunately. I haven't beaten angelic gate because I just got sick of the combat.

MAYBE hard mode is completely different and you actually have to think? I'm not sure. I'm sure as hell not bothering to grind all the level 1s up.

That's not OCD. It's a little neurotic, but not OCD. I don't know how you can look at guides all the time though, especially on a first playthrough. That just ruins the game. Might as well not play it.

The OCD-est thing I do is in games like Resident Evil 4, I rearrange my briefcase over and over until everything fits with everything else just so. It has to be spatially efficient, organized and categorized, and look nice. It bothers my friend to no end.

YEAH UGH

i do this too except with all of my inventories. in pokemon everything is sorted alphabetically (since it's already split categorically)

Why can't you motherpineapplers just play the games? You can get perfect stuff later on, learn to play for fun.
Walkthroughs are just a cheatsheet if you're stuck on the same thing for more than an hour.

I was sure that u were talking about Maple.

An RPG with neat battle system? U might want to try Star Ocean 3. There is no better wandering around music than heavy metal.

I'm assuming you're looking for a serious response, but uhh.. I've always been into my games, if they're RPGs, especially ones that enables you to play online (MMOs) or ones that can play with multiplayer/ad-hoc, I tend to take it a bit more serious and try to get really decent gear. I'm a competitive gamer, and it applies for most of the games I play except for the casual games such as Spyro, etc etc etc.

Was thinking that too.

Lol, that's not really OCD.

However, I only see a game's rating before I get it. I don't look at walkthroughs unless I must. I have to be sitting there for an hour contemplating before I go look at a walkthrough.

edit: didn't realise this was in funhouse, sorry.
 DSM-IV scales for OCD

i don't think this satisfies criterion A either for obsessions (4 requirements), or for compulsions (2 requirements). also criterion B doesn't appear to be satisfied (since OP seems to enjoy it), and it's not clear if criterion C is satisfied. the 1 hour limit applies for a single recurrent behaviour/thought rather than a complex task such as playing an MMORPG - also it doesn't make sense to categorise almost every gamer as OCD.

as an alternative, there's also various online research on game addiction that you might find very interesting Smile (http://gamestudies.org/1001 is one source)

I've done a massive essay project on Gaming Addiction once last year, friggin 10 pages, man. ^ I guess it's more like compulsive-behavior more so than OCD. :3 Thanks for explaining!!!

This too. I like my inventory organized and nice looking. Stacks of potions should be all of the same type next to each other- stuff like that.

If I knew anything about Feng Shui, I'd never leave my item menus.

I can't stand when I go on to other people's characters and everything in their equip, use, and etc is tons of random pomegranate in random places. Just let everything go where it falls. It hurts my soul to look at. I have to organize it. Must.... organize....

That's why I love Disgaea's inventory. One button tap and everything is organized the way I like.
