Time to move on
Rob Wrote: lol the f'uck is going on.
Fiel's probably attempting to make the most out of (aka destroy) southperry before selling it.
I've never been banned, but I can't match $3,000. Probably half a grand at max. :/
I can sorta match up to Spidey's offer, I make almost 12k a year working at crappy jobs. However, I don't like having responsibilities, at all (due to laziness), and I've been banned once. So no thanks. Sad
Well, if anyone is interested in sustaining the site until August, I could do it. ._. And I mean, I'd WANT to. Of course I don't show my face around here nearly as much as pretty much everyone in this thread but I've been here since the beginning (on the same account, too) and haven't been banned, and do meet all the criteria listed except the last one, which can easily be fixed I suppose (I haven't had any reason to take up Python, I guess?).

Well, 2c.

But right now I'm not around all my regular hardware and in a completely different state with a netbook and some fibre optics. I guess it's what happens when you tell your immediate family to go screw themselves. Either way, the situation I'm in isn't going to end until August (go back to school/my apartment) and isn't good enough to do really anything.
@Extraction comments: I think it's important to note that one of the biggest aspects of this site Paul implemented to set it apart from others like Sleepywood and Basilmarket was an extraction section that always had the first information for any version of MS. It's one reason a large portion of people, those who usually don't post or don't even have accounts, visit this site: because the Maple News is top-notch. How many of you posting for the elimination of extractions get pissed off when other sites essentially copy and paste Paul's hard work to their own General MapleStory sections? Regardless of if you get pissed off or not, most of those threads all say "credits to" and, under whatever rules the site may have, pay tribute to Paul/SP for the information. The bottom line is that without SP extractions, the Maple community would receive game information that much longer. The organization and process of providing such information on SP is so well done that (aside from the social forums which, might I add, really only the small community of users that frequent SP post on) it is one of the biggest highlights of the site.

Keep in mind, too, that if you want to play the forum statistics game, you have to keep the reality of the matters in check. The social forums are usually only visited by the most active Southperricans, while Extractions only come a few times a month. Even MapleStory Discussion/Class-Related threads are few and far between simply because it's easier to throw a new internet meme/viral video in the Funhouse than it is to create a discussion on some aspect of MapleStory that hasn't already been discussed.

In the end, I think it's imperative to recognize the importance and innovation of a forum for Extractions, especially when condemning it to death in order to keep the site as a whole alive. If it came down to the option of "let the whole site die" or "let the site continue sans Extractions," of course I would vote for letting the site continue, as most would, but we still have 2.5 weeks. If possible, let's try to find someone who can do extractions for the site a few times a month rather than condemn the practice immediately.
Damn just noticed this. I will be very sad to see this place go. Even if I dont play Maple any more I still visit this place daily.

Sooo you mean I have to go to SW to get Maple update info?!...please god no.
I'm not rich... but I could totally put some money towards the purchase with a group of people. Although, I don't even know if Paul would want a group of people purchasing the site. Although, it would seem most appropriate if we made his legacy live on while he goes.
Missed this one for a while.

Sad to see you go Fiel, you always appeared very fair and seemed to know what you were doing. Good luck in whatever else you do though I'm sure you won't need it.

As much as I'd love to see this site flourish even after Fiel is gone, I think the community is a bit too unruly and won't ever fully accept someone new. Who knows though.

I never said get rid of extractions. That's why I said extractions may have a much higher view:post ratio.
It is a big part of SP. But, If we can't find someone to take over the board,I would like for us to still exist in some way. It would still end eventually, but, not as abruptly as this.

One this is for sure - if southperry is not sold, the moment this domain expires someone will buy it and make his own site here.

Does the domain expire with the webhost? I don't think so but I could be wrong.
Wow i get unbanned and all this happens. Also Sarah is going on hiatus or something? Who will i argue with now?

While i was banned i did see sp activity drop thou

SP is the only maple related site i was actually active on, will miss it if no ones takes over.

If both are payed yearly\monthly and were bought at the same time, yes

In the first post, Paul said he pays through the 17th. And we know southperry existed in 6.30.08. This means he bought both the server and the domain on 6.17.08. He decided to end it on the 6.15.10, which is 2 days prior to completing 2 years. Coincidence? I think not. If what I'm assuming is correct, the domain is payed yearly and will end on 6.17, which is why he posted it now.

Honestly, Paul - did you have that planned?

Fiel Wrote:- Access to the DNS (NameCheap - yearly dues are next month)

The domain is not tied to the web host, however, it will expire next month just like the web host service. IMO Fiel needs to at least renew the domain so that someone couldn't hijack it. It only costs around 9 bucks renew it for a year.

For the record, I'm one of the (2?) staff members that DON'T appear as invisible.

Yes, well, NOW I know.

That can be solved by a simple DNS lookup:

http://www.whois.net/whois/southperry.net

And no, I do not pay yearly, I pay monthly.
Russt Wrote:That's not the point. "Anyone" can do extractions because the format is known and tools have been made public. If the encryption suddenly changes and we're reliant on a repacking script, where are we now? Fiel mentioned that as owner of SP, he's cracked four formats (LaTale, DFO, DN, MS patch). That's not to say that there is no one else equally competent, but it's no simple role we're talking about.

Of course, the owner doesn't have to be the one to do this.

Have you forgotten theres a ton of development forums that could crack the new one in a minute?
Don't worry about that... first we need someone to take over the admin job...
Edit: Kay', that I can agree with.
If it comes down to a matter of funding, I'm more than happy to donate $10 a month towards keeping the site running. All I ask in exchange is a yearly Mandatory Puce Day, wherein all posts will automatically be changed to puce.
