Best combination for leeching?
#1
So me and my friends are starting over in a new world. we're wondering. what would be the best combination to leech up other characters.

I was thinking maybe a page or a fighter. that way we can leech it to a decent level fast so we can help ourselves level our other chars. ( from what I remember using power gaurd and taking hits you can leech any level mobs ) ( If we do need a page or fighter for this should we add everything to HP till a certain level or somthing? )

I'm guessing a bishop is obvious for leeching since HS + gen. also does thunderbreaker's speed infusion effect the whole party ?

anyways. we're not really sure what characters would be the best for this. reason we're moving together is because we got hacked a while back and don't feel like staying in the same server. so leeching our own chars up will let us get the jobs we already leveled without the hassle of re leveling.

Thanks ~ sorry if this is asking alot.

Leveling a new character with the sole purpose of leeching another character seems pointless. Use that time to get some NX through the MTS to fund 2x exp cards, and you'll be training way faster than you would be leveling with leech.

We got NX and we got enough FP for alot of 2x buff. we just want to regain what we had the easy way. and it feels like some kind of grand plan to plan out what chars to level for tactical purposes O_O.

anyways, I'd really appreciate it if someone could answer the questions. ( I mean this sincerely. I hope this dosn't apear pretentious or arrogant )

Leeching really does pale in comparison to actual training nowadays.

There are only two exceptions but they are both for low levels that fly by anyway. The first would be bf leeching but that really only works up to about 90 if you include suicide leech. Since you can't really get bf leech til you have a decent attacking char anyway it is also rather pointless for the purpose you want it for. The second is pg skele leech which doesn't slow down til about 50 at best.

The higher level skele/gallo/newtie leech just isn't that much more effective compared to training yourself. You'd actually be wasting time training a bishop in order to leech yourself, especially considering what a horrible char they are to train to 4th nowadays. You wouldn't even be able to benefit from the blessing considering they'd have to be on diff accts in order to leech anyways.

In order to leech from a pg mule everyone needs to be partied (attacker, pg, leecher) and the leecher has to be within 5 levels of the pg'er. SI does affect the entire party.
Low level leeching typically uses a pg mule and either a bishop for mob leeching or an attacker for boss leeching. Higher level leeching benefits the most from bishop leeching.

please explain to me then how leveling is faster nowadays? I'm really lost then. what's changed?

for me getting to 70 is still a long pain and 120 is even more anoying. I loathe grinding. ( ALOT ) . getting to 15x took Years >_>. and from what I know. leeching can get you to 120 VERY VERY fast.

This is a grinding game. That's all there is to it.
There is nothing else.

I got my last HS mule to ~90 in a couple of weeks soloing it in my spare time, and that was without any family 2x, any NX, no pets and nothing.
The game is damn simple. You just have to suck it up and accept it for what it is, and if that's the aspect of the game you don't like, newsflash, it's the only aspect of the game that exists, so you don't like the game and should find one you'll enjoy.

Sorry but I like doing other things. scrolling items, bossing , messing about. and I like grinding past a certain level where gaining a level isn't my goal. just whacking stuff.

for me thats 100+.

also maple isn't just a grind fest. It's simply enjoyable to be a high level.

That would be bullcrap, so either you've got no clue or you're lying to yourself.

There's nothing to do at a higher level that isn't the exact same as at lower levels.
You either kill stuff to level, kill stuff to try to get an item that will take forever, kill stuff to make money to do things you want to do that will run out much faster than you can make it or kill stuff because it's what the cool people are doing and you think it will make you cool to do it too.

It's all killing. It's all grinding.
There's no level high enough to make that go away. Even at 200 if you want something you've got to grind for it, or you've got to merchant your ass off which is just another form of grinding, and lets face it, that doesn't even require a level over 16 to do so being high level again has no value.

I really couldn't care what other people think. I don't enjoy grinding with a low level char. skills are more interesting and characters look better at high levels. Hell on my DK I used a 7x PA till 110 because I like the way it looks. its just like playing an offline game. the gameplay in Devil May Cry and in Bayonetta might be identical but I find DMC alot more interesting because of character design.

I played maple for years and I know what it's about.

Anyways I don't want to argue. I just wanted to get some information about leeching and if what dpeterlin says is true then I'd like to know how leveling got that much faster. at 9x leeching at harps I could do a level in an hour. Am I to belive that now you can level in under an hour at 9x?

That entirely depends on what class you are and whether or not you're actually killing something that you can best leverage your classes to kill.
The underlying formula hasn't changed. You kill whatever gives you the most XP per minute/hour until you're big enough to move to something else that's better.

Or you do the PQ that gives you the best XP if you're at a level where PQs are an option and they can net you more XP than the best mob you can kill under the previous rule.

It's no different from driving cross country - Take the highway or the backroads, whichever route gets you the most miles covered in the least time with the least traffic and risk.

I'd recommend getting a x2 card and leveling up to 30 by yourself, these days it takes less than 4 hours. After that, if it's possible, you could rig CPQ with some friends to give yourself exp from winning until you can solo one side of rooms 3 or 4 with max speed and trojans. I can say I've hit 50 in under 24 hours (Total play time over 2-3 days) on my Pirate, Aran and Evan with this method. After you hit 51, you could try to rig a CPQ2, or just leech yourself, although I wouldn't know what to do that on.

How long ago was that? Because the formula for exp splitting has changed within the last year so that leechers get half as much exp per kill as they used to. That's why it's faster to train (especially party) than to leech nowadays.

If you really want to level up something, level up mules. An HS mule would probably be the best since you two are playing together. An HB or Haste mule might also be nice.

They changed the leech formula and they released better training maps with a lot more attack boosts. The change in leech formula halved the exp you get from leeching, it's just not as good as it used to be.

Grinding isn't better but it's not far behind either. I didnt get less then 50% an hour on 1x til level 100 on a char I recently made. 15x no longer takes years, months at best if you can dedicate a few hours a day.

I could care less whether you leech or not, just trying to warn you before you go out of your way to make a bishop that will make 26-50 faster and that's about it. If you don't believe me then go to a harps channel, they used to be packed, had to cc around a bit to find a ch, now they're all empty.
