Advanced Dark Crystal
#1
I was wondering how the Advanced Dark Crystal exactly works.
Does it always give +5 or -5 in stats or can it also give +4 for example?

Another question is if anyone ever had any luck with them before.
I've used quite a few of them and all of them deducted stats or did nothing.
Is the Advanced Dark Crystal glitched or am I just very unlucky?

Thanks by advance ~

It's very difficult to get the DC to do what you want it too, that's why I never mess
with them and go for straight stats+stims. I know they aren't glitched by
the thread if you go look "godly makered items" where some people have great success
with them. If I recall you can get a range from like +/- 1~5.

A change of 0 is possible too.

Advanced Dark Crystals can give a stat modifier of anywhere from -5 to +5 to STR/DEX/INT/LUK. You were probably just unlucky. As for why your equipment turned out that way, here are some possible scenarios:

Result: Average (Nothing Happened)
A. The equipment's base STR/DEX/INT/LUK was below average, and a positive stat bonus from the Advanced Dark Crystal offset this.
B. The equipment's base STR/DEX/INT/LUK was average, and the Advanced Dark Crystal provided a stat bonus of 0.
C. The equipment's base STR/DEX/INT/LUK was above average, and a negative stat bonus from the Advanced Dark Crystal offset this.

Result: Below Average
1. The equipment's base STR/DEX/INT/LUK was below average, and the Advanced Dark Crystal provided a negative stat bonus.
2. The equipment's base STR/DEX/INT/LUK was below average, and the Advanced Dark Crystal provided a stat bonus of 0.
3. The equipment's base STR/DEX/INT/LUK was below average, and the Advanced Dark Crystal provided a miniscule positive stat bonus that could not offset it.
4. The equipment's base STR/DEX/INT/LUK was average, and the Advanced Dark Crystal provided a negative stat bonus.
5. The equipment's base STR/DEX/INT/LUK was above average, and the Advanced Dark Crystal provided a large negative stat bonus that made the stat fall below average.

You COULD use a stimulator to remove scenarios A, 1, 2 and 3 from the above list. Stimulators seem to remove the possibility of the equipment having a base stat that is below average, but also add a 10% possibility for the forging to fail (this probability can be reduced by having a high Hands stat).

I'll never forget my advanced DC encounter. I was trying to make basics just for the hell of it, and one of my first forges yielded an advanced. I sold it for 120m back when maker was first released. :3
