1. Download & Install into one directory (ToD2 and ToVP are missing from the original FTP, grab them from mediafire)
2. Patch (5.003.exe, stick it in the installed directory; if an error pops up, you're either missing files or it's in the wrong directory)
3. ???? (????)
4. Enjoy

I keep getting an error when I open up TOSG. It says something about TOS1.player (which is a file which itself comes from TOSG.
Any insight?

Try redownloading the .exe. Did you get it off the website or Mediafire? I've also read that long directories can cause issues with installing.
Asbel's story is ridiculous by the way. Just trying it on Hard is terrible. My most successful run, I got Barbatos down to 1/10th HP, and he uses some Hi-Ougi that apparently kills me despite having 80% HP left. Don't get me started on Mania. Synch is just *insert nerdrage here*

Oh wow, what? Totally spending tomorrow playing this. Looks awesome. Too bad I don't know most of the characters in the 3rd and any of the characters in the 4th row.

Apparently not. I was hoping that black space next to Regal would be for Sheena, but there's no unlockable characters yet, I believe. Zelos has some sort of ability to call her to use two attacks, but that's it. Maybe in future versions, as the black boxes do have game titles associated with them; namely, ToS, ToD, and ToE.

Who even cares about Regal? Why should he get a spot?

I got it all from the mediafire link. Perhaps you could be a bit more specific with the downloading instructions. One thing that isn't mentioned is that the v 5.003 patch requires that all of the files be in the same folder INCLUDING the ones that are installed for you into a subfolder (ACS). Otherwise it gives you an error.

I've tried it for a bit, but it's kind of hard to learn all the controls. That and my laptops keyboard is crappy so I can't even make a combo half the time. Where is the tutorial in this thing?

4th row characters, the 3 in the middle: Reid Hershel, Max, and Shizel. All from Tales of Eternia. I'll probably use Reid and Max a bit, and then switch to Asbel if I get bored. Also, though I haven't installed the game yet, mostly due to laziness, here's a Hi Ougi video for you all, that is related to ACS:
Part 1

Part 2

Enjoy the Hi Ougis.
PS: Reid's Hi-Ougis was.. sorta sexy. All the same based on the Aurora Artes, but holy f*ck. In-game, he had:
-Omega Dragon Chaos (aka Wyrm Wrath)
-Aurora Wall
-Aurora Slash/Sword
-Aurora Wave (only works to counter Shizel's Hi-Ougi)
-Undulation of the Whirling Light (this is an extension of Aurora Wave, iirc, not sure)
-Burning Phoenix
-Quasi Seal
I am sad that his ODC and Quasi Seal was not included. But I am impressed that ACS gave him like 3 or 4 Hi-Ougis or some sh`it. F`uck yeah!

Yeah, I'm finding the learning curve difficult, as well as doing some attacks.
http://www36.atwiki.jp/2dtales/pages/16.html
Basically, it's the same as things like Street Fighter. Double tap forward to dash; back to back step. Hold back to block. "E" engages over limit (bar at bottom). Attacks are in the command lists. There's a list of characters on the left side under キャラクター for ACS. It lists each of the skills, how to perform, Aerial Enabled or not, damage, and at the bottom for most characters I believe, there's combo lists you can do.
I've played Asbel, Kohak, Presea, and Suzu so far.
Asbel is probably the easiest to play. Burst Style is almost completely useless to me, and Artes Style I believe does less damage compared to other characters. He doesn't require any "combinations" to do attacks, just hold a direction and press A to use his Artes. You can draw his sword but it's ridiculously slow.
Kohak <3 EG simulating system is well done and definitely reflects the original well. I can't seem to find many situations to place spells in at all since they take so long to cast, though Blazing Hearts seems instantaneous, at the cost of TP.
Presea is slow. She doesn't use CC, and alternatively has a similar system as she did in Symphonia, where you have to use Tokugi (特技 -> Higi (秘技 -> Ougi (奥義 (Lv1 -> Lv2 -> Lv3 in NA version)
http://www36.atwiki.jp/2dtales/pages/28.html
JP guide to her skills, and the orders they can be used. She's a bit too slow for me and I didn't like her move sets all too much to play for now. Maybe with a bit more practice.
Suzu has pretty awesome speed and such, though it took me a while to get used to it. For the love of me, I can't seem to do QCF/B + B; it always ends up doing Down + B =(
I wish there was more variety to what you can fight. This was designed to be more 2-Player VS oriented, I suppose, but still. Maybe I'm just doing it wrong. Asbel's story mode is just ridiculously difficult compared to the other three I've played.
P.S. Omega Demon Chaos (猛虎連撃破 is ↓・↓・C and Quasi Seal (風塵封縛殺 is C after using Omega Seal (風刃縛封 [↓・→・↓・→・C]. All of which require TP, presumably a lot since Quasi Seal is a hi-ougi.

Is Cless/Cress the only lead character not there?
And Asbel wasn't in the Hi-Ougi exhibition. Nor was Colette, now that I think about it.

That was probably before the updates, not too sure. Part 2 was it, I think.

Hi-Ougi exhibition is a bit old; a week older and it would have been before Graces was even out. I think Cless is the only main that isn't there, yeah. Disappointed for sure. This is constantly in development though so we might see him in the future, but I do believe it was only just recently updated for Asbel.

I take it back. Kyle and Senel aren't in the cast. And Ruca from Innocence isn't. You can use two attacks with Senel plus a hi-ougi with Chloe though.
Shizel is a whore. Outranges my Chloe, spams Spark Wave, which is seemingly undodgable unless you have absolute hax reflexes (which is retarded seeing as how she can cast another before the first one finishes), and then does double hi-ougi after I counter the first one and before I regain character control to block. AND WARNING SECRET BOSS. Bull crap. Best I managed overall after like 20 retries was one run where I manged to get four or five hits in. Most runs I ended up dying without doing any damage because.
I'd love to be able to play against a person though ='(

I don't think Spark Wave was ever avoidable, right? I remember in ToE, when you get to play as Shizel, one of her starting spells would be Spark Wave, and it's fcking half of the screen... It's unavoidable. I don't think you can even block it, I've never attempted though. It multi-hits and combos you upwards.

Still haven't beat Neurid, but I took out Mithos just now. My arms are sore.
I was mistaken about the secret characters thing. They're unlocked by beating the characters through story mode, obviously, but without continues or so I am led to believe. I used God knows how many. The three characters are Neurid, Mithos, and I believe a second Barbatos skin or something. Neurid is a Shizel skin, and Mithos is a Dhaos skin; they have different movesets. Presumably they are only that broken in story mode, seeing as Mithos could have killed me had he just spammed his lazer. In fact, one round he comboed me to death instantly (100% -> 0%) when I tried to melee first thing, resulting in him taking no damage. Doesn't help that his Hi-Ougi takes out half of Suzu's health, if not more and is unblockable apparently.
