I know it's possible, but it's impossible. I've gotten over 20 thousand watts and used them all on searching for one. I've never gotten one. And I've tried every single 2 !! as well.

Still never got a !!!

Side note, tuesday my luck went up.

Wednesday: Surfan pikachu, lightball from pokewalker connect
Today: flyan pikachu, lightball from pokewalker connect

Meh. Lightballs and Thunderstones are quite common, especially with connect.
However, those Pikachus.....>.>

How long you wait from when the "!" or "!!" pops up to when you press the middle button affects the odds of finding one. :| Maybe yer doing it wrong?
Well, there's also the whole needing 10k steps before you can even try. (or something like that)

is this true?

http://www.serebii.net/heartgoldsoulsilv...area.shtml has odds for each pokemon, if this is true then that is wrong

Maybe I worded that poorly. If you press the button half a second after the "!" pops up, there's a different (smaller?) probability of getting a "!!", or second "!" than if you wait 5(It does go away if you wait too long, kinda annoying). I got it to work wonderfully in a standard unlockable course, but have had issue trying to make it work on Yellow Forest.

This sounds like the "hold A and down" crap.

I could see why you'd think that. For the life of me I can't remember where I heard it though. ._. Going to try and do some more scientific test with it. Have a Mile-Run tomorrow in Gym, so no shortage of Watts to be had.

Edit:
Found my source.

Bulbapedia Wrote:As with chaining in the main series games, chaining is also possible in the Pokéwalker, but it is dependant on timing. If the player waits a while after a '!' appears and click it, there is a chance that he/she may get another '!' patch, over-riding the previous one, and if the player continues this trend he/she will get a '!!' patch , and then a '!!!' patch after that. The timing needed to wait seems to vary between the rarity of the Pokémon, with rarer Pokémon needing less time.

It may "sound" like the hold down A crap, but after a while of doing it, you do notice trends. If the ! is farther away from your current location, usually it moves on to another !. Why? Because it takes longer to reach that area.

Testing needs to be done then.

is serebii's odds right?

Or is bulbapedias article right?

The "odds" are simply based on statistics. Bulbapedia's article more or less could be true. It really all does depend.

I thought Bulba said wait longer and get the next tier of pokemon, while Serebii tells you the odds of finding a pokemon given the Step Count and tier.

But if that's the case... they don't contradict at all. So why does testing need to be done to find out which 'one' is right?

you just stated that they do.

One says that the tier is affected by timing. Another says it has a % of appearing. So is it a set percentage, or timing based?

One says the odds of moving on to the next tier is affected by timing, the other says the odds of finding a pokemon given the steps and tier. One is rate of finding a Pokemon at all, the other is what type of pokemon.
