How to tell a girl that you want only to stay as friends?

Really. I need help. Bad. There's this one chick that likes me, and it's strongly hinted when me and her have conversations. Sometimes, we would be walking to the pier or something, and she'd walk right next to me. She would twirl her hair around and say "Ya know, it's pretty cold tonight. Man, I wish I had someone to cuddle", and turn her eyes and attention towards me. I take a quick glance at her and then look somewhere else on purpose so she knows that I'm not interested. I just say "I see. Haha." as to make a polite response.

She's 18, and she's really cute and all, but my life is way too complicated and busy at the moment to be involved in relationships (at least, I think so). So I purposely update my blogs by saying 'blah blah blah So guess what's new? I've been extremely busy with school and work blah blah blah' when I update my blog, hoping that she'd notice that as a hint. She seems to have laid-off a bit, but I don't know if that's because she noticed my blog, or if she noticed that I've been busy lately.

I tend to have problems telling people the truth at times, because I can't stand seeing someone sad or depressed because of the things I do. I hate being too nice sometimes, but I also hate to sound like a douchebag by saying "I don't like you that way. I want to stay as friends.", I don't want to be direct. In my entire life, I changed a lot. When I was younger, I was a bit violent and aggressive. But when I grew older, I guess I sorta turned into a softie. I hate seeing people hate me or getting overly depressed because of the words I say, so I try not to cause others emotional pain. If anything, I try to make a light-hearted conversation and hint things rather than be direct.

If anybody could give actual helpful advice, I'd appreciate it. I'm sure I'll see some pretty useless and sarcastic remarks.

Yeah, she hasn't said anything, but the signs are heavily hinting towards my assumptions. I'll wait it out for the moment. Most girls gets bored if they can't get a guy anyways, I would assume. The first two girls that ever liked me got bored of waiting and eventually moved on, hoping this one will move on just as quick. I'm just too busy. :/

She might understand and give you space/time, or she might overreact and go ape crazy. You're the one that knows her, you should do what you think is best.

What I would do is first figure out, 100%, if she's serious about a relationship or just saying bubbly things like that just to mess with you. Next time she says something hinting at a relationship, ask her why she said that and what is she thinking about when she says that, try and get her to be clearer. Based on that, if she really wants to be with you, tell her that you've though about it too, but just aren't sure about being in a relation because of your current situation.

It also depends on what you want, maybe she can give you the extra support you need to handle stuffs, maybe she'll just be another boulder to carry. Either way, good luck with your decision, man.

Maybe she thinks I'm hinting something too when we sit on the couch, and she has her head on my shoulder, I let her, and I don't mind it, but maybe she thinks I like her too, or something? Personally I'd just say to wait it out. Eventually she'll realize you're not into it and back down.

Option 1 also works for "how to get a promotion at work" or "how to get a higher rank in the military." Use it wisely.

Don't say anything if she doesn't say anything. Let her throw hints all she wants, she could just be play flirting just for the hell of it. (I don't know her, so there's no basis to this guess).

She may even be the type that waits for the guy to make the move, then pretty much gives up on them if they don't because she figures they're not interested (in your case, this is correct). Ignore her advances like you are now. Unless they make you really uncomfortable, or you feel as if you might give into her one day if she continues, then ignore it. I don't see how this would be too much of a problem unless she constantly does stuff like this nonstop while you're hanging out to the point that you can't even have fun without her trying to make a move.

Gay guys make pervy jokes too. This is no indication whether a person is straight or not. Some gay guys make pervy jokes on their female friends all the time and play flirt, but aren't serious about anything.

He may already do this if he really thinks of her as just a friend. This also wouldn't do much. In fact, she may end up thinking that she's earned more of his trust, and take that as a sign of getting closer to him. That is, if she's the type to analyze every little change in the mood and make a big deal about it. (Don't like when people do this.
