Is it wrong to monitor your childs text messages?

With one of the programs which called mobile spy software that lets you read every message that has been deleted.
Here is the scenario. And adult provides a cell phone to a 15 year old teenage child. The child is sending and receiving HUNDREDS of text messages per day. The child deletes the massages. The parent gets a software program that allows them to hook the child's cell phone to a computer every night and be able to read every message. what are your thoughts on this? And please include your age along with your comments. Thank you for taking the time to express your opinions to my question.

If the kid has no prior signs of issues (doing drugs, drinking, incidents with the police), then yes, its a fucked up thing to do because the parent has little to no trust in the child, which means the child may end up being "sheltered" in their later teens, and the parent may be overbearing on the child as they become an adult.

If the child has had those issues, there isnt a major problem with it, but there is still some trust issues, but the child should know that they have put themselves into the situation.

its good insofar that it will help parents identify if their child is either the one causing or is a victim of abusive text messaging, or if their child is sending out pictures of them nude. of course its a tremendous invasion of privacy, and on that it will never be legalized, but the idea behind its creation is sound.

If they did nothing wrong previously, and they aren't getting into bad trouble (sex, drugs, gangs ect) Then thats just pineappled up. the child will feel invaded, and can create issues in the future. This is a very bad idea.

no. Just no. If they want to be invasive and spy on their children's PERSONAL CONVERSATIONS. they should at least have a right to know. As far as phone laws go, eavesdropping without at least 1 party knowing (or 2 in some states) is ILLEGAL and just plain wrong.

You're still a minor under their care. They can open and read mail that was sent to you until 18 if they wanted to, and there's nothing you could do about it.

The problem with parent's these days is that they're way too lenient with crap like this. Why the hell are you letting a 15 year old send so many text messages? If he wanted to talk to his friends, he should call them.

Hell, he could write a letter. OR TALK TO THEM IN PERSON. But really, if all you're doing is sending meaningless crap back and forth, what's the point? You might as well not talk to begin with. In fact, I doubt he has any real friends. They're probably in it for his money, since obviously the parents are rich if he has a cell phone. It's all your fault when he loses his phone and gets dumped by the others. Have fun buying him a prostitute when he's old enough.

When I have kids, I will have a program like this. Not only that, but I will have surveillance cameras in their room, GPS tracking in their vehicles, and keyloggers galore on their computers. Babies gonna be on lockdown.

the problem isnt sexting.
If someones daughter sends her then BF a picture of herself naked, and after they break up the BF distributes it to the internet, if not also around the school, that girl's life gets seriously ruined. If a parent becomes aware that this is going on, they can confront their child about it before it gets that far.

of course with the above it also plays into parents need to learn to better raise and educate their kids and actually be parents. one thing adults dont like is being told how to raise their kids, even if they need it. This is a controversial thing thats been around for a few months now, and it plays into so many aspects of personal/parental responsibility, versus invasion of privacy and rights thereof. i myself cant see it happening based on the fact that no one really wants to know what their kids do behind closed doors, as well as the obvious invasion of privacy, but its also sad that things have gotten to a point where now parents have to consider monitoring their kids damned text messages. sure if the parents pay and provide the phone for the kid they should be able to have their way, but even then its still not enough to say that something like this should be made a law, or what have you.
